Coffee Filters?… What Next!

I didn’t get a chance to do the sketch challenge on Splitcoast yesterday, and today the challenge was to use a “person” on your card. I had this cutie-patootie new digi, A Simple Gift of a Flower, from Sassy Cheryl’s,  already partially colored so I combined the two!

My colors are really wonky today! No matter what I did in PSE I couldn’t get the colors to come true to the actual card…so use your imagination! Think salmon or peaches and you’ll be close!

Anyhoo…. she’s colored with Copics and some white gel pen accents. I’m loving my new Spellbinders (labels 21 and blossom 3) and of course the Grand Calibur!

*Designer Tip*
I did some faux cardstock too… that means I took a piece of white and just colored the edges with a Copic to match the image!
To get a mat that fit the image, I traced around the outside edge of the same die used to cut the image, then cut around that line!

The sentiment from MFP’s new In My Mother’s Garden was perfect for the card too!

Here’s where the coffee filters come into play! I took one filter, folding it in half then half again, in between the fold I tucked a folded piece of fine tulle and ran it through, all together, the Grand Calibur. I took my Tattered Rose Distress ink and dabbed it to the filter flowers, spritzed with water to spread the ink, crumpled a bit and heated with my heat tool to dry. Then I layered the filter flowers with the tool, glued together with Zip Dry glue and attached my sentiment with a thick glue dot (I sponged the edges of the sentiment with the same ink). The entire flower is popped up on a dimensional.

My daughter, Jennifer (Country Bulk Barn), invited me to go along with her to a Walnut Creek food show up in Amish country. We went up on Monday, spent the night, did some sight-seeing and attended the food show! A nice get-away and yummy samples too!!  
Our part of Ohio is so “blah” compared to the rolling hills of the north-eastern part of the state!

Here are the few pictures I managed to snap!

Gosh! We saw some gorgeous homes!! WoWzers!!

A Picker’s paradise! We went into this “Vogt General Store”. The inside looks about like the outside! Just a narrow path to walk around the store. How they have any idea what all they have in there is beyond me… they probably don’t know!! LOL!

There were several of these cabins behind the store. I wish I would have asked the history!

The ride home was rainy but still scenic.
This is the longest covered foot bridge in Ohio over Clear Fork along the Mohican River. It’s 150 feet long. The river was very swollen and some at points way over the banks!

On the way home, we came across this Amish farm that had a chimney fire. Hmmm, how did they call the fire department?! I guess if they have a business, which this one does, they are allowed to have a phone outside of the house.

They also had these bags collecting sap from the Maple trees for syrup. If you look closely, you can see what looks like water, that’s the sap.

Today, it’s back to the real world. Even just being gone 2 days I’ve got so much to catch up… as soon as I’m done here it’s out to do barn chores. And, on a side note… seeing all the Amish buggies really makes me want to get serious about training a llama or two to drive!

Here’s a quick card I did this morning for the sketch challenge on Splitcoast.

African Veldt, Mark’s Finest Papers, colored with Copics. The frame is Spellbinders Labels 1 with a Sizzix embossing folder, then sponged with Distress inks. Cardstock is from MFP, DP is DCWV Photo Stack. Faux layering was done for the black layers… a sharpie marker and ruler!

What Do Fish, Daffodils, Chipmunks and 38 Years Have in Common?

That got your attention didn’t it!

They are all cards I made this week AND our anniversary!

Yup! 38 years of wedded bliss… whew!
That’s a long time to put with me!

Next, Daffodils! I just love them!! Mine are just starting to push their way up through the earth…maybe an inch or two high.
Ahh, I can’t wait to bring in a big bouquet for my dining room table!

This was the sketch on Splitcoast this week. I really enjoyed it, simple yet different! Our Daily Bread designs March release, Daffodil Corner, verse from Daffodil Tag set, stamped frame from Eternity and our matching custom die, Labels One.
The DP is Prima Sparkling Spring, newly released too! It’s so yummy!
The Daffodils are colored with Copics, cut apart and popped up over the label. Two Martha Stewart border punches were used on the narrow strips.

This adorable little guy is also a new release from Angels Landing, Chipmunk and Vinca 1, a digital image. The Ways To Use It challenge on Splitcoast yesterday was to use felt in some way. I’ve had these felt coasters from Michaels forever! So, with my trusty craft knife and some fussy cutting, I opened up the image to expose the coaster.

He’s colored with Copics and some Sakura white gel pen for accents. The card measures 4.25 x 4.25.

Papers and Pixels….Online Crafting Magazine

Several months ago, I was contacted by one of the editors of Papers and Pixels to do a guest spot in their February issue. I’d never heard of this magazine before, but after seeing what all they packed into an issue, I can see me referring to it often just for the technical information alone!

This is the card I did along with step by step instructions.

How Do You See a Sketch?

When I first saw the sketch on Splitcoast, I immediately saw one image split in four pieces!

So that’s what I’m sharing with you today, two totally different cards, but done the same way!

This is Greet The Day With Gerber from Mark’s Finest Papers. For this one, I cut my squares first, kept them together and stamped the image. It’s colored with Copics then lightly sponged around the edges with Vintage Photo. Then I layered the squares on the MFP cardstock and heavily distressed them.

This one I stamped the image, colored, then cut it apart. I think the other way works a little better as I obviously didn’t cut evenly…sheesh! LOL
I love how it turned out though. A great guy card! We stampers tend to struggle with masculine cards don’t we!
