Do You Have Music in Your Heart?!

Pop guitar

Growing up there was always music! My dad had a country western band and when he wasn’t playing his guitar for a dance, he was playing for pleasure, OR teaching someone to play, OR singing, OR whistling a tune! Always, ALWAYS there was music!

He’s been gone many years now, but every now and then I’ll think of an old song he sang and many happy memories!

Here’s a card from the Sketch Challenge today on Splitcoast.

This is ODBD Music Speaks on Ornate Hearts die. I stamped the bird again (not inking it up so it would be lighter) and colored with Copics, hand cut and popped it up. The quote is embossed on Blushing Rose dp. I cut the dp down to fit inside the dotted border of Faithful Fish Pattern die, and couldn’t get away with not using my favorite vine from Fancy Foliage.

Music makes you happy… you should always have a tune in your heart!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Saying Goodbye is Never Easy…

He entered our lives in the Fall of 1997, a reddish furball of Collie and Australian Shepherd mix. We had just lost our 12 year old Beagle not long before. “No, let’s wait a while I said…it’s too soon.” But hubby had other ideas! And….who could say no to that face! That’s when Dodge entered our home.

Carmen, our first grandchild, was just over 18 months in this picture. It started Dodge on a long road to LOVING kids! He lived through 9 grandkids tugging on him…#10, almost 6mos old, won’t remember the big dog…but Dodge knows he’s another family member!

Dodge grew into a big dog, the size of a Collie, and to some probably looked like he’d take your arm off at the elbow! But he was as gentle as they came. Everybody was a friend and came to visit him not us! He had a way of talking when people came in the house, not barking, but talking. I guess letting us and them know someone was here and how happy he was to see them. Some people even talked back in “Dodge talk”!

I’m going to miss that… as he got older and started losing his hearing, he did that less and less…. one day he stopped doing it altogether.

March 98

Fall of 99

If you were outside, so was he! He loved the outdoors and sometimes it was hard to get him inside!

Our road was his road, the neighbors his neighbors and he’d visit often. He’d even escort walkers and joggers for a short distance down his road.

He lived through being hit once, chasing a rabbit across the road.

Funny thing with him…I don’t know that I remember him ever killing a rabbit. But always in the summer, he’d find a bunny nest, bring a baby or two up in the yard…. put them down in front of him and wait.

Have you ever heard a rabbit squeal? Well, they do! Kind of like a squeaker toy.

He’d paw at them to make them ‘squeak’! When they’d stop he’d paw again!! As long as they kept squeaking he stayed there! Usually someone rescued the poor thing or it died from the trauma. Silly dog!

The mail carrier, UPS, Fed-ex drivers all knew him and he knew they had treats! It was always funny if we had a sub and to watch Dodge greet them! They were sure they were his next meal!

From 2012…with his buds, Bandit and Jack

He started slowing down the last year or so, his jaunts not lasting quite so long, not wanting to stay outside as long and finally his hearing. CLAP CLAP to get his attention, often startling him. Poor guy.

It was hard for him to get down and up the back steps, something he'd done for almost 17 years. So, we started letting him out the front door, only 2 steps. Let me tell you, old dogs DO NOT learn new tricks. He’d come to the back door every time to be let in! One of us would have to go out, CLAP CLAP, C’MON DODGE… and slowly he’d amble to the front door where he’d need a little help getting up those 2 steps.

He had no strength in his legs and on the vinyl flooring it was like walking on ice! We put scatter rugs down to help him make it through the house.

Sleeping more and more… it was time to have “the talk”… we knew it needed to be done, but it’s so hard!

One of his favorite places… by the front door, sound asleep.

Saying goodbye… his pals were with him until the end. He even got to say goodbye to the littlest one, Daniel.

It was a beautiful evening when the vet came, even then he was happy somebody came to see him! He enjoyed some last scratches…

No more suffering now, he’s at rest. Probably running chasing those baby bunnies so he can make them SQUEAK!

Goodbye, Dodge… till we see you again.

Our Daily Bread designs

A fun Technique Challenge on Splitcoast today, Pillow Top Background. I hadn’t really planned on stamping today, but it’s rainy and dreary so it just seemed the thing to do!

A little preview of what’s in store for the May release from ODBD! This is Glory, Holy Angels and Vintage Labels Die. I know you’re going to love this release!

Our Daily Bread designs

I sponged the background with Scattered Straw then stamped and colored the Morning Glories with Copics.

Our Daily Bread designs

It’s time for some sneaky peeks at what’s
coming on Wednesday…………..

WAIT FOR ITTTTTTT……

JANUARY 1ST….say WHAT???!!!

Um, yeah….wow!

Our Daily Bread designs

There are some ‘fillers’ coming for the Blue Ribbon Winner set with matching  custom die, Canning Jars. How fun is that!! Here is a card I did for the the CAS challenge on Splitcoast today.
This is Canning Jar Fillers, conversation hearts!!

Our Daily Bread designs

For the sentiment, I inked only part of the sentiment from Baking Tags Sentiments, using another custom die, Ornate Borders and Flower.

Very CAS (clean and simple)…and for me, that’s something!! LOL! The background is Spellbinders Gold Rectangle 1.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Here are a couple pictures from our Christmas day. I took pictures of each family to send to my MIL and then several pictures of just my kids. For the first one they were ‘normal’….but they had to clown around which is really how they are!!! LOL!

Lusk2LuskFunny2LuskFunny1

This next one needs a little explaining….

I was using my smart phone which is programmed to voice command to take pictures! I just have to say, SMILE, and it snaps a shot! So cool!

Anyhoo…Caleb and family were the last to pose for their family shot at the end of a very loooong day and of course the kids were getting sillier as we tried to get ONE good photo!

This one, my DIL, Dianna, grabbed Gabriel and through clenched teeth, said…. SMILE!
LOL….of course my phone snapped and this is what we got! OMGosh…more laughter!!!

And with that… I’ll leave you chuckling!

My Last Post of 2011…

Another year…whoosh! Thanks to all who have stopped by!LittleSquirrelCorn

I managed to catch this cute little guy chowing down corn before he skittered away! They’re so fun to watch.

I have to share a couple of Christmas pics too, mostly to annoy my oldest granddaughter! She’s such a rebel, out of the entire family who cheers on OSU…she follows Michigan! So, for Christmas I made her puppy, Keeper… a Boxer, several sweatshirts. After all, Boxers don’t have much hair and he gets cold when he has to go outside! And yes, he’s still growing…he’s only 9 months old!

Before the festivities started, I kept Carmen busy while her mom and uncle dressed Keeper in his ‘casual’ sweatshirt.

CarmKeeperOSU resz

Of course Carm had to run put on her ‘M’ sweatshirt! I also made Keeper a more stylish one for when he wants to dress up.

CarmOSU

Can’t wait to see him in this one! LOL

CarmKeeper resz

I think he’s happy with it! LOL… smart dog!

Another surprise was a new puppy for Benjamin…just too cute! A Beagle-Blue Heeler mix. Awwww

KeeperPupBone2

And……………… a card to share too! Another look at what’s being released tomorrow, Jan 1 from ODBD!

GrungeCross Z clsd

This is Never Give Up combined with Grunge Cross Background, and the Grunge Cross with Grunge Cross Die! I love the grunge look…the more distressing, the better!

GrungeCross Z clsup

All the DP is Prima Moulin Rouge, dry embossed, sponged, distressed and over-stamped! The Grunge Cross Background is on the green layer, stamped in Distress Pumice Stone.
The Churchill quote is also in Pumice Stone on the cross layer.

This is a Z-fold card. The card measures 5x5. The top was scored at 2.5 and folded back toward the fold…then the grunge front was attached just to that part.

GrungeCross Z fold

GrungeCross Z open

GrungeCross Z w-side resz

Kind of fun to break out of the normal side or top fold card! *Note to self*… do it more often!
I stamped the Churchill quote again in Pumice Stone on the inside strip then stamped the verse in black.

Don’t forget to join us tomorrow for the release blog hop! Lots of awesome creations!

Have a safe New Year’s Eve!!

Thanks for stopping…
one more time!

Pumpkin Carving Day!

blk

Seven of the nine grandkids came over today to carve pumpkins with Uncle Timothy! The rules? He cuts the top out but they have to scoop out the "guts" with their hands! Then if they're old enough they carve their pumpkin OR mom/dad/Uncle Timothy helps carve theirs.

Before I share the FUN pictures, here is a card made for several Splitcoast challenges. Bee-lieve in a Cure by Anna Wight from Whipper Snapper Designs.
