Knitting on Your Arm…Say What??!

Still searching for that unique gift for Aunt Sally or that gift exchange at work? Or maybe you’re looking for the perfect accessory for an outfit. Why not try knitting up a scarf!

A while back I was asked to review and blog about this new book, Arm Knitting by Mary Beth Temple. It was back at the beginning of summer and quite frankly I couldn’t bring myself to think about messing with yarn in warm temps!

Now that the weather has turned cooler, and the thoughts of cozy clothing and layering is here, it’s the perfect time to share this!

I asked some family members to help out and knit some samples too!

No joking…some of these projects will take you about 30 minutes to complete! Don’t worry if you’ve never knitted a stitch in your life!

The book is complete with step by step pictures from start to finish for each of the 15 projects!

You actually use your arms to knit these projects! No worries though if you can’t finish it and need to start dinner!! Just slip your work onto a broom handle, yardstick or something comparable…then just come back, slip it back on your arms and pick up where you left off!

This is the Button-Up Cowl with several types of yarn. It was lightly snowing on this picture day, even caught some of the flakes!

The book gives you yarn suggestions, but you can also play around with weights for different looks.

You always have your arms with you,
so you can do this anywhere!

Look in your local department store or craft store for the book. *And a tip on yarn… I found a treasure trove of yarn at a local thrift store yesterday!

I can’t wait to hear what Aunt Sally says about her homemade, ‘arm’ knitted scarf!!

Taking a Look Back at the ODBD September Release

Today we’re taking a look back at the September release from Our Daily Bread designs!
I also have a special offer to you, my readers!!
But you’ll have to read clear to the

For this card today I used, Sewing, Stitches, Soulful Stitches Collection, Doily dies, along with Beautiful Borders, Recipe Card and Tags, and Zinnia and Leaves dies.

I split the dp background to keep it looking like a whole A2 piece, hiding the cut edges with ribbon. The edge that should have ‘cross stitch’ on the right is also trimmed, with the patchwork border on top! I liked the look of the wavy edge on the Zinnia die for the quote too.

I had made 2 cards for mid-month and couldn’t make up my mind which one to go with….so I’m sharing both!

I love how the Doily makes beautiful corner embellishments! The verse is from Stitches stamped on Recipe Card and Tags die, slid on the ribbon and popped up.

Love the rich look of black and white too! I used Chalkboard Collection as the base.

This past weekend I had fun working the ODBD card making retreat at Salt Fork State Park. It was a jam-packed weekend of techniques, designs, fun, food, laughter….more fun….well, you get the picture!

Anyhoo, my release card with the hand knitted swatch was on display… here it is if you missed it.

Had I had my needles and yarn with me, I could have knitted my fingers to the bone! Those ladies went crazy over that little swatch!!

Sew Happy to See You…ODBD Release!

I used our Tri-Shutter Card, stamping Birthday Doily in Adirondack Shell Pink on white cardstock for a background. I cut the pieces to fit then started adding all the fun stuff!!

The beautiful Doily Dies are great alone or sponged while still in the die as I did here.

Using Vintage Flourish Pattern, and Recipe Card and Tags, I stamped the verses and stitched frame from Birthday Doily and Sewing. 

My next card features the Hand Knit set with matching Knitting Basket and Yarn dies.

And…I just thought it needed something ‘hand knit’! I used size 0 needles for my handspun llama, single ply then transferred to toothpicks for the card.

As The Spinning Wheel Turns....

So, today I mentioned to someone that
I was going to spinning guild today. Than in turn brought the question,
"Dawn, what is spinning guild?"

Instead of taking my wheel,
I took my camera instead
and will show you just what might go on once a month.
I've been going to guild for almost 10 years!
Wow! Has it really been that long? Yup, guess so!

It all started with my friends' love of fiber, all aspects of it and buying a loom at an auction! They needed a place to put it (and several others that followed), all the spinning wheels, TONS of fiber, books,
material, spinning paraphernalia

and I have no clue what else might be there, lol!

this is a scarf he started in October....08....
if it were me it would be October 1998!
