How Special Are You? Sew Special and a Joy to Have as a Friend!

You’re getting to see a sneak peek at several new items coming August 1st from Our Daily Bread designs!

Today’s Technique challenge on Splitcoast was to make a box for those chunky cards that just don’t fit into an envelope….you know the ones… layers and layers, piled with flowers and embellishments!! This isn’t mail-able, but it makes for a neat presentation to hand to that special someone and make them smile!

My “box” lid is embossed with Kassie’s Brocade, the window is Spellbinders Lattice Rectangles and Large Labels. I used my Scor-buddy for too! That awesome fence… that is larger than *whisper* Martha’s, is Fence Border Die, one of the new items!! How cool is that!!!

The stamp set is Sew Special, it’s colored with Copics and sponged with Distress inks. I added some white gel pen to some of the quilt block and did some faux stitching on the Spellbinders Grommet Tag.

I have several old needle packets from my mom’s sewing stash… this one just happened to be quilting needles! I didn’t want to put the package on the card so I just scanned and copied it! 4 cents… now that is old!

Although my card isn’t super chunky, it would be a pain to try to send in an envelope!

Here’s another card I did using the Sweet William Large and Small sets.

A quick simple one using the flowers from both sets and some wax paper flowers too with Spellbinders Blossom 3 on my Grand Calibur! The black layer is faux’d using a sharpie marker and a ruler.

A Sneak Peek… and a Fun Project Too

Our Daily Bread designs has some wonderful sets coming June 1st! This is Serve The Lord, Crocheted Lace Background, Crocheted Circle Die and Crocheted Border Die.

It’s my turn this week to do the “Time With” post on the ODBD blog. Here I have a “Post-it” Note holder with custom made sticky notes and card. Sit back and get inspired to make one

For my cover, I stamped the crocheted circle from Serve The Lord two times. I colored the California Poppies with Copics, then using a Spellbinders Circle die cut out the circle, then trimmed closer with scissors. These I layered and popped up with foam dimensionals on more circles as shown. You'll need another circle for your back side also.

Here's how I did the custom sticky notes to match

Starting with 5-6 sticky notes at a time (any more than that and the die won't cut through), the Crocheted Circle Die, and your machine of choice (I used a Cuttlebug) cut a stack of "Post-its", sticking them together as you cut them.

This is my piece that will hold the front and back together and allow space for the notes inside. Score 1/4" either side of the middle. (I used my Scor-buddy, always at my side!)

I applied Scor-Tape and adhered to the inside front and back then placed the sticky notes inside.

For the card, I stamped the Crocheted Lace Background and "faux layered" it...meaning I took a black Sharpie marker and ruler around the edges. This saves on cardstock and bulk!

I stamped the crocheted circle twice and again colored with Copics. I also cut the circle using the Spellbinders circle die and trimmed closely with scissors.

The Crocheted Border Die matches the image that is part of the Serve The Lord set...so pretty! I stamped it twice, die cut and put them back to back. I also just used the die to make some black trim to layer behind.

The sentiment is also from this set and is cut with Spellbinders Grommet Tags. I custom colored the brads with a Copic to match my Poppies.

Time In A Bottle….

An all time favorite song from my teen years…ack…was it really THAT long ago??!!.. Time In A Bottle, by Jim Croce, is one of the new stamps from Our Daily Bread designs, Blessings Collection also a new collection! Available June 1st.

Another new set being released is Time. A large lovely clock face, perfect for scrapping or cards with several sentiments and scriptures.. a must have!!

This is the sketch on Splitcoast today, flipped to accommodate the quote. I used Bo Bunny Timepiece and embossed it with Cuttlebug’s Clockworks. Also with the same DP, I used Spellbinders Sprightly Sprockets in my Grand Calibur, such a cool die set!

The clock and quote are sponged with Ranger Distress inks, Antique Linen and Frayed Burlap.
The quote is faux layered, meaning I used a black Sharpie marker and ruler on the edges. Saves a little bit of bulk.

Speaking of TIME…. I could sure use more of it! Or maybe I should say, more time=days with LESS rain! I just started shearing this week!! I have 4 done of the 14, (my own). I also have a half dozen or so that I do for others! Today though, even though it isn’t raining at this minute… I think I’m giving my hands a break from the clippers and get some stamping deadlines met!

Here is Dapple, my very first cria (baby llama and now 12) and his new hair cut. He’s such a sweetie with very nice fiber too! He’s an Appaloosa, just like in the horse world.

I always have the 4H kids help with their llama. Last night we got 2 done while the boys were unloading hay and the rest of the group were practicing Showmanship.

This is Tobi and Levi. We tried a new “do” on her this year. I really like it!! And once Levi has her all groomed up, she’s going to be gorgeous!!

Well, that’s some pieces of my week… hope you’re doing well and getting the things done that need done! LOL

My daughter, Jennifer (Country Bulk Barn), invited me to go along with her to a Walnut Creek food show up in Amish country. We went up on Monday, spent the night, did some sight-seeing and attended the food show! A nice get-away and yummy samples too!!  
Our part of Ohio is so “blah” compared to the rolling hills of the north-eastern part of the state!

Here are the few pictures I managed to snap!

Gosh! We saw some gorgeous homes!! WoWzers!!

A Picker’s paradise! We went into this “Vogt General Store”. The inside looks about like the outside! Just a narrow path to walk around the store. How they have any idea what all they have in there is beyond me… they probably don’t know!! LOL!

There were several of these cabins behind the store. I wish I would have asked the history!

The ride home was rainy but still scenic.
This is the longest covered foot bridge in Ohio over Clear Fork along the Mohican River. It’s 150 feet long. The river was very swollen and some at points way over the banks!

On the way home, we came across this Amish farm that had a chimney fire. Hmmm, how did they call the fire department?! I guess if they have a business, which this one does, they are allowed to have a phone outside of the house.

They also had these bags collecting sap from the Maple trees for syrup. If you look closely, you can see what looks like water, that’s the sap.

Today, it’s back to the real world. Even just being gone 2 days I’ve got so much to catch up… as soon as I’m done here it’s out to do barn chores. And, on a side note… seeing all the Amish buggies really makes me want to get serious about training a llama or two to drive!

Here’s a quick card I did this morning for the sketch challenge on Splitcoast.

African Veldt, Mark’s Finest Papers, colored with Copics. The frame is Spellbinders Labels 1 with a Sizzix embossing folder, then sponged with Distress inks. Cardstock is from MFP, DP is DCWV Photo Stack. Faux layering was done for the black layers… a sharpie marker and ruler!

You’re A Keeper!

Best Friends Are For Keeps! Yup!

I just love these digi pups, Doggie Pile, from Squigglefly! Just too cute!

Well, yesterday’s sketch challenge on Splitcoast proved to be too fun, so I had to do another card!

First, I colored them with Copics, then using my Scor-buddy I scored where the “cut line” would be for my horizontal piece and carefully cut up to the image with my little guillotine. I used a craft knife to cut around the pups. Then, using a Sharpie marker and a ruler, I faux’d the layer.
The sentiment is unknown.

I also incorporated the color challenge which was navy, olive and yellow!

I just love the expression of the bottom dog! haha!
The dp is DCWV, Martha Stewart border punch and I used foam mounting tape to pop up the “pup” layer.

Heartfelt Happy Birthday

You can’t have enough birthday cards on hand! Seems like I’m always needing one!

This is the sketch and color challenge on Splitcoast this week.

This is Hearts Hearts Hearts from Mark’s Finest Papers. It’s colored with Copics, and a paint pen for the white centers.

After coloring, I went over the image with my Versamarker and clear embossed it.

The baker’s twine, pin and charm are also from MFP… but… the charm was gold and the pin head silver! Not suitable for this card!

 *Designer Tip* 
Change the color with Copics!  I also used an Elmer’s Painty pen in the center. I also faux layered this piece by using a black Sharpie/ruler and a fine tip red Sharpie!

This is Favorite Flowers, by Innovative Stamp Creations. Colored with Copics, the centers have Ranger Crackle and Stickles.

My card has faux'd layering, cardstock, stitches and brads. The base layer is sponged with Crushed Olive and Bundled Sage Distress inks. The embossed layer is edged with a Sharpie marker. The brads are 4 punched circles each(glued together), colored with a Copic, stamped the script over them and covered them with Glossy Accents by Ranger.
