With the shading already there, it makes coloring a snap!

LeShoeRosesHearts4

The roses….done, but not done.

LeShoeRosesHearts3

I wanted to really have the roses and hearts POP, I thought greys would be a nice compliment.

LeShoeRosesHearts7

I started the hearts in a pale purple on the weft (the crosswise parts…)

LeShoeRosesHearts8

Then came in on the warp with several purple shades. In the end I went over the entire heart with the pale purple again.

I also took several of the greys and added some shadow.

To give the roses a little more dimension, I added some white pencil and blended it in.

New Art Coloring Books from Katy Sue Designs

LeShoeButtonsWM

I remember coloring lots of coloring books when I was young…
and I’m still coloring…..
hey, I’m young at heart {wink}!!

books

I was asked to color up some of these detailed images from Katy Sue Designs new adventure, Art Coloring Books, or as in the UK and Canada, Art Colouring Books. Artist Sandra Rushton did an amazing job on these books. You can read about her, here, on the KSD blog.

The books will be available to the US on Thursday exclusively with Create and Craft TV. I hope to have a direct link for that broadcast and will share it in another post.

To give you an idea, I used different mediums on several of the illustrations to show how versatile they are, Copics, Yarka watercolor, and Prismacolor pencils. I could see these being framed in cute little boutiques, specialty shops and restaurants!

Let’s start with Nautical Adventures.

Boat1st-pencilsWM

Here is one done in pencil. The cool thing is, you get several of each main illustration that is shaded and several that aren’t so you can put your own special touches in where you want.

Whew…I haven’t watercolored in a looooong time! This particular one just seemed like it should be done in watercolor though!

And, this one, with Copics.

You do need to put scrap paper behind when coloring with any of your mediums if you leave it in the book because of “bleed through”.

And… Le Shoe

LeShoeButtonsWM

This was the first one I colored up (Copics) and it just screamed Pink and Purple! lol…

LeShoeButtons-Copics

LeShoeRosesYellowWM

Within each book are accent pictures that go with the theme. Obviously, this one doesn’t go with the ‘button shoe’, I just wanted to color some roses!

This is also one of the un-shaded illustrations.

Hopefully another post tomorrow with some step by step shots.

Coloring on Kraft…and MISTI!

Spring is right around the corner….21 days, 7 hours, 25 minutes at the time I’m writing this post!

I love daffodils and iris and if you’ve been with me any time at all, you know I have them all around my yard. I can’t wait to see all those green sprouts start pushing up through the ground!

I’m sharing several things with you today. A sneak peek at one of the new stamps coming from Our Daily Bread designs, Christ the Lord Background, and I caved and jumped on the newest stamping craze… the MISTI from My Sweet Petunia!

This is also several challenges on Splitcoast today, stamping on kraft for the F4A and ‘along the edge’ for the Mix-Ability.

I love the look of stamping on kraft and even better when colored with pencils (Prismacolor)! But did you ever notice when you color over your lines and blend the pencil, you lose the definition of your stamp…the ink seems to fade. (unless of course you’ve embossed your image!) I’m going to show you what I like to do. And, now that I have the MISTI it’s going to make it soooo much easier!!.

I started by stamping with Memento Tuxedo Black, my favorite for coloring because it doesn’t smear. I left the background in place while I colored with my pencils and blended with baby oil. (yes, you can blend with baby oil!)

You can see as I colored and blended over lines that it faded the black.

So, this is what I like to do to make the image POP again!

With my image all colored, I put it back in the same spot, this time stamping with Ranger Jet Black. It’s a crisp, black. I don’t recommend for coloring unless you emboss or let it dry for a long time, it tends to smear and I’m way too impatient! I want to start coloring NOW!

It really defines your image to ‘over stamp’!

I decided I wanted to pop up the flowers, so I used a scrap of kraft, set it in the area where the flowers would be and with my background still in the same place, inked up just the flowers with Tuxedo Black. Using a pencil, I made an outline where this scrap was so I could put it in the same spot to ‘over stamp’ it! The MISTI worked like a charm!! Awesome!

Be sure to pop in on the first to see the March release!

Some Tall Tails…

Katy Sue Designs, Flower Soft

Yay, several more cards to add to my Christmas stash! These are the new Tall Tails
from Katy Sue Designs.

Katy Sue Designs, Flower Soft

You might recognize the background as another new stamp from KSD, The Door, from the Timeless Collection. I thought ‘Robin’ {of Robin and Mouse} would look cute standing in front of his home! I know, I know… he’s not colored like a Robin…work with me here!

So, I stamped The Door on Kraft and colored with a Copic/Prismacolor Pencil combo.

Katy Sue Designs, Flower Soft

The greeting and ornament are from the Tall Tails, Robin is colored with Copics and a little white gel pen, I added some Flower Soft Polar White and Christmas Green.

Here’s another one, this one from Owl and Reindeer

Katy Sue Designs, Flower Soft

I used one of the greetings and the larger holly image for my background. A different color combo for a Christmas card, but I think it turned out cute.

Well, yesterday my day was consumed with turning an over-flowing 5 gallon bucket of tomatoes into 13 quarts of spaghetti sauce! Oh, the house smelled like an Italian restaurant!! YUM!

Today? Hmmmm… as I type this post, it’s a little early to tell….but I think it’s going to be a different kind of creating day…….. a paper one!

Crocus, Lambs and Daffodils… Spring Isn’t Far!

let the earth rejoice, earth's gladdest day, our daily bread designs, flower soft

I see little leaves pushing up through the frozen ground…won’t be long!

I’m sharing a couple of projects with you today, both are the result of several challenges on Splitcoast, the Color, Technique, and Sketch! {the technique- dry emboss patterned paper and sand}

I haven’t done a pot with flowers in a long time and these Crocus worked perfectly!

let the earth rejoice, earth's gladdest day, our daily bread designs, flower soft

I used both new sets from Our Daily Bread designs, Let the Earth Rejoice and Earth’s Gladdest Day. For a change, I colored them with Prismacolor pencils, blended with baby oil and added some Flower Soft to the centers. I hand cut each image which really didn’t take all that long!

The ‘pot’ is Bo Bunny embossed with the Victoria folder and cut with Spellbinders Labels 12. For filler I stuck in some Cheery Lynn Designs Fanciful and Tropical Flourishes. I sandwiched another piece of cardstock to the back of the pot with thin strips of mounting foam so the ‘tag’ could easily slide in and out.

Without realizing it… my sketch card qualifies for the color challenge too! It wasn’t until I was uploading here that it hit me… I was just looking for ‘Springy’ dp when I made the card!

TheShepherd, our daily bread designs

This little lamb from The Shepherd is so fun to color! This time, Copics and cloud template sponged with Distress inks. The DP is Bo Bunny Ambrosia, Spellbinders Lattice Rectangles, embossing folders Swiss Dots and SU Square Lattice.
