Papers and Pixels….Online Crafting Magazine

Embrace Today clsup

Several months ago, I was contacted by one of the editors of Papers and Pixels to do a guest spot in their February issue. I’d never heard of this magazine before, but after seeing what all they packed into an issue, I can see me referring to it often just for the technical information alone!

This is the card I did along with step by step instructions.

The Answer To My Problem… and a Card Inspired

clip_image001

**************************

ICblk

I just love this quote! On Splitcoast today, the Inspiration challenge was from Serena and Lily, home décor. I chose to use this wall art for my card.

IC273 Sometimes

I used a quote from Anchor and the Fish Background, Our Daily Bread designs, stamped in Broken China. See that cool new label?! That’s ODBD Label 1 that will be coming out next week!! All cut on my Grand Calibur and popped up on dimensionals.
The wavy punch is an EK punch then I embossed with the Swirls Cuttlebug folder.

Enjoy your weekend!

Thanks for stoppingOpen-mouthed smile

I Could Use A Place Like This Right About Now!

f4a53 blk

Waking up to ice and snow this morning,
I was happy to see the
F4A challenge on Splitcoast was Aloha Friday… anything tropical!
What says that more than sun, surf and sand!

F4A53 MalibuAnchor

Once again, I used Anchor from Our Daily Bread designs. I stamped the image, masked it then sponged the sun using a  hole “circle punched” piece of copy paper. The rest is colored with Copics. I added the waves with my Sakura white gel pen, using my waterbrush to “move” the ink around a bit to look like waves.
The DP is SEI On The Coast.

f4a53 shell

I also haven’t used Mudd Puddles sand in a while, so added Malibu Beach and Shells!

Ahhhh… I can dream about a place like this as I look out at the whiteness!!

Using Grey…Quick and Simple!

WT grey

The Ways to Use It challenge on Splitcoast today is to use grey. I never realized how hard this color is to photograph!! I have trouble with purples being true…now grey!

Anyhoo… I did a CAS (clean and simple) card this morning before heading out the door to a 4H advisor meeting (time to start thinking about kids and llamas!)

WT311 Holds

I used Anchor, from Our Daily Bread designs, stamped in Pumice Stone on a grey generic cardstock. Then I stamped the sentiment in black, rounding the bottom sentiment on my acrylic block before stamping just for a little different look and kind of an “ocean wave” feel.

I used the new Fish Embossing Plate for the background.

For my “faux” cardstock (to make it a darker grey) I used N4 Copic around the edges of the same light grey cs. I thought the EK punch had a wavy look to it and added a nice touch.

Trust you day is going well.

How Do You See a Sketch?

SC321clsp

When I first saw the sketch on Splitcoast, I immediately saw one image split in four pieces!

SC321_by_SCSketches

So that’s what I’m sharing with you today, two totally different cards, but done the same way!

SC321 A Good Day

This is Greet The Day With Gerber from Mark’s Finest Papers. For this one, I cut my squares first, kept them together and stamped the image. It’s colored with Copics then lightly sponged around the edges with Vintage Photo. Then I layered the squares on the MFP cardstock and heavily distressed them.

stamps: greet the day with gerber- mark’s finest papers
ink: ranger black soot, vintage photo
paper: mark’s finest paper cardstock, basic grey indian summer
other: copics, distressing tool, ribbon-mfp, foam mounting tape, ink applicator-ranger

SC321 clsup

This next one is Our Daily Bread designs, Anchor.

SC321 Hope is an anchor

This one I stamped the image, colored, then cut it apart. I think the other way works a little better as I obviously didn’t cut evenly…sheesh! LOL
I love how it turned out though. A great guy card! We stampers tend to struggle with masculine cards don’t we!

stamps: anchor- our daily bread designs
ink: memento tuxedo black
paper: gp white, collectionz dp, hallos black
other: copics, sakura white gel pen, foam dimensionals

It’s Been a While!! I’m Home and Back in the Harness!

Has it really been since February 9th that I did a blog post?! Surprised smile

After lots of ice, snow, airfare price hikes and teary goodbyes, I made it home in the wee hours of the 17th! It took me several days to feel “normal(and I use that word loosely! haha!) But it’s Monday, and a Technique challenge on Splitcoast got me back in the groove again.

Making a Bargello design was our challenge:

Bargello is a type of needlepoint embroidery consisting of upright flat stitches laid in a mathematical pattern to create motifs. The name originates from a series of chairs found in the Bargello palace in Florence, which have a "flame stitch" pattern.

Traditionally, Bargello was stitched in wool on canvas. Embroidery done this way is remarkably durable. It is well suited for use on pillows, upholstery and even carpets, but not for clothing. In most traditional pieces, all stitches are vertical with stitches going over two or more threads.

Traditional designs are very colorful, and use many hues of one color, which produces intricate shading effects. The patterns are naturally geometric, but can also resemble very stylized flowers or fruits. Bargello is considered particularly challenging, as it requires very precise counting of squares for the mathematical pattern connected with the various motifs to accurately execute designs.

tlc313blk

Much simpler version for the cards though! Just cut strips of paper and adhere them side by side onto copy paper, then turn that paper 90 degrees and cut strips out of that. You’ll have a variegated patterned strip. Then arrange these strips however you want, getting the pattern you like, adhere them to a piece of cardstock and use as your background.

My first sample is done with Our Daily Bread designs, Wood Fish.

TLC313 Faith

The paper is from The Paper Studio, base is Bazzill. Wood Fish was stamped in Ranger Fired Brick and popped up on Spellbinders Curved Rectangles.

tlc313blk

TLC313 Sweet

This Bargello design is DCWV’s Pocket Full of Posies. Mark’s Finest Papers, Spring Has Sprung, colored with Copics and layered on MFP cardstock. Cuttlebug embossing folders, Polka Dots and Frills Borders for the base and strip.

Thanks for being patient…

I'm writing and scheduling this post from Montana with help from my family back home sending me the pics! LOL! Next week should be a little more normal (normal? I really don't think I know the meaning of that word!!) and hopefully I'll be back to the old routine... haha!
