Layers....Do We Really Need Them?

TLC277 blk

Happy Monday to you all! I'm starting out with high hopes of getting a lot accomplished this week! Gotta get those critters sheared, the dog included! AND still get CREATING time in!!

Today's Technique Challenge on Splitcoast is doing a One Layer Wonder. Yup...ONE piece of cardstock....NO layers! Actually, when I first started stamping I did a lot of this type, so it felt good to get back at it!!
I also combined it with yesterday's Featured Stamper, LeAnne Pugliese, and used
this card for my sample today!

TLC277 Remember WhenTotally ONE layer with just masking to create the illusion of layers!

The Poppies are from the set, Beautiful Flowers by Innovative Stamp Creations. I stamped in black, water colored with Adirondack reinkers, then over-stamped in black again to "pop" the image.

I cut a mask from a large sticky note, placed it over the Poppies and stamped, Background Series:Little Specks, again from Innovative Stamp Creations in Adirondack Stonewashed. The sentiment is also from this set.

Then I cut down my mask and started sponging with Distress inks, Wild Honey, Rusty Hinge and Barn Door. (drat! you can see on the one side where my mask slipped as I was sponging and some of the red got where it wasn't supposed to!! LOL...oh well!)

To tone down the stark white of the background, I sponged more Distress, Tumbled Glass, over the Little Specks.

These cards are easy on postage! LOL!

Well, I hope you've learned a little something in your visit today! Now, I need to get busy around here!

Thanks for stopping!

Dawn

What a beautiful one-layer card :)
I really enjoy stamping and masking etc and having fun combining different stamp images. Too many cardboard pieces flying around these days...

thank you for the reminder. I do like one layer. I gave a card I slaved over the other day only to find when my recipient opened it one of the layers unglued. Not good.

Hi Dawn~

LOL--love the thought of you shaving the llamas.hehe. I can't imagine what that looks like!

I am glad I was able to see your card today. It does look like many layers. You are so great at masking. It really is deceiving to the eye.
I love the colors you used! That background speckled look is intense!

Thanks so much for sharing with us!
