Prince Edward Island (PEI) Day 1

We got to the ferry 2 1/2 hrs early (we didn’t know what times it left!)…so we got our place in line and just “hung” around. The lady in the cafeteria, Jennifer, told us about an owl out back that had been around all day.
Not just any owl…but a Snowy Owl! Lloyd was able to get within about 40 ft of it.

011

 Isn’t it beautiful?!

While I kicked back in the truck and took a nap, Lloyd did some whittling.013We thought this was the ferry we were taking, but it wasn’t.

While waiting, a group of guys pulled up on their motorcycles…from New Jersey!
Here are a couple of them napping…lol

014

Our ferry pulls in and the travelers depart, then it’s our turn to drive on.

Good-bye Nova Scotia!

017018019020021022      024We saw a couple seals along the way, I barely got this shot! He was so fast!

025Looking straight down from the upper deck.

026

The first lighthouse on the island that we drove to.
(I’ll add the name later…the map is out in the truck!)

027

Ok…it’s 1:30am local time

Stick a fork in me….

I’m DONE!!

Good night=)

We’ll see where we end up tomorrow!

Do You Think They Get Tired of Lobster?

004

“What’s for dinner?”…
LOBSTER again??!!

$4.99 a pound! Halifax is at the tail end of the season (pun intended! lol)

006Couldn’t pass up taking a picture with this sign…and…uh…Lloyd!

007

The Rhododendrons are in full bloom!!
They’re gorgeous, pinks, purples…beautiful!
The lilacs are in full bloom and the peonies are tight buds…a month behind Ohio.

We’re packing up and heading to Prince Edward Island…

stay tuned=)

Day 2 in Nova Scotia…Peggy’s Cove and Around (a long post!)

Ok, don’t you love this color pattern?!! It’s the carpet outside our room in the hall! It’s a little deeper in color than it looks here…rich looking =)001

002 This is why we’re here! Lloyd has to service his equipment there. See that very LARGE, TALL bridge in the background? Yeah…we have to go over it!003 004

Just breathe…I HATE high stuff like this, it just about sends me into a panic attack! I closed my eyes not long after this!

005 This, oh, just a little side trip because we didn’t turn the way Tomtom said…all those containers, and cranes! WoW!

Alrighty then…on to Peggy’s Cove!!

006 007 008

009Now, you can’t get the full awesomeness of these giant rocks that surround the area…they’re massive! How did they form? Collision of crustal plates beneath the ocean floor forced molten material to the surface, which solidified as greyish-white coarse grain granite.

010 Looking straight down.

012

013

014

015018 See the guy in the upper right corner? Tiny person!…GIANT rocks!!

020

Peggy’s Cove restaurant…this is gingerbread with whipped cream…YUM!!

021

If you click on the picture it will get a little larger and hopefully you’ll be able to read the story.

While we were here at the docks, we were talking about just what do you do around here?…quite a few small houses with very small yards. “Oh, let’s go up to the Lighthouse and climb on the rocks”…yeah, seems like that would get old quick!
Although we did think what fun the grandkids would have playing on the rocks.
About that time a boat came in and docked…a local family with 2 kids, they got off the boat and as they were walking past us the son who looked about 10 or so said, “hey Dad, can I go play on the rocks?”! We laughed!! They really do just play on them for fun!!

048Just looking down into the water.

049  Just one of the hundreds of lobster traps!!

050Whale bone outside a shop.

063  At the age of 70, a local artist started carving this tribute in stone!

064

067

And from here we say good-bye to Peggy’s Cove, an awesome place if you ever get the chance to visit!

069Before we left the hotel today, Lloyd looked up a Geo Cache…sure enough there was one not far from the cove!
The title was “Pioneer, a grave situation” (or something like that).

070071

072The marker was just at the edge of the highway, but the coordinates led way back into the trees.
Lloyd looked all around but never found the cache =(

I went back to the truck and decided that this would be my summer home…one of them, maybe both if I get bored!

073074 075Quite different from the houses back at the cove!

A long post, but I wanted to share so much!! Hope you enjoyed it, sorry I couldn’t include the crashing of the waves and the smell of the salty air!

Thanks for stopping!!
