Acrylic Distress

tlc

Do you ever start out with one idea then totally end up getting INVOLVED??!! That’s what happened to me today with the Technique Challenge on Splitcoast, Acrylic Distress.

Basically, what you do is paint your cardstock with acrylic paint (if you only have white, just add some reinker to it!), let it dry…doesn’t take long… emboss with a folder or plate, sand, sponge on some dye ink, dampen a paper towel and wipe the excess off. I’ll give you a link to a tutorial in a bit.

So, I got to my craft room and thought how cool ‘bricks’ would look. Yup, they turned out awesome and grungy…so the stamps to use were obvious, Never Give Up and Grunge Cross with matching die from Our Daily Bread designs!

I painted my paper with Espresso paint dabber and embossed with Tim Holtz Bricks embossing folder, sanded and sponged on Adirondack Raisin.

I stamped the Grunge Cross and quote on a page from an old book in Raisin. Spellbinders Cross Collection was cut out of more Espresso painted cs and sanded for my layers. I dabbed some paint onto Ribbon Tag Trio 2 after cutting and lightly sanded.
I had an old drawstring from who-knows-what (I knew I’d use it someday!) cut a short piece, opened it up and frayed it. Perfect color!

Ok, even though I loved how this one turned out, it was dark and although encouraging, not very cheery!

Enter card #2!

Hmmmm, if this technique works with an embossing folder, why not try it with an embossing plate too!

I started out with Spellbinders Labels 21, painted my cardstock with Lake Mist paint dabber, embossed with Our Daily Bread designs Butterfly Embossing Plate, sanded and sponged on Tattered Rose Distress ink…and wiped the excess off with a damp paper towel.

I love these two colors together! I painted some more cs with Lake Mist, and stamped the 2 Step Butterfly in Memento Tuxedo Black & Tattered Rose. (make sure each step is dry before proceeding… ask me how I know!)
I did 2 butterflies so I could layer them and used the Butterfly 2 Die that matches.

The medallion layer is Spellbinders Fleur de Lis Motifs, and Lattice Pendant topped with Labels 18 that matches Bird & Butterfly Labels! Again using the same inks to stamp and sponge while still in the die. The sentiment is from Mini Tags 3.

Martha Stewart flower and foliage punches make up my spray. The cardstock is all white, just take the ink pad and smear it onto the white to color!
