It Is Well… Sneak Peek

How This Song Came to Be

This hymn was written after several traumatic events in Spafford’s life. The first was the death of his only son in 1871 at the age of four, shortly followed by the great Chicago Fire which ruined him financially. Then in 1873, he had planned to travel to Europe with his family on the SS Ville du Havre, but sent the family ahead while he was delayed on business concerning zoning problems following the Great Chicago Fire. While crossing the Atlantic, the ship sank rapidly after a collision with a sailing ship, the Loch Earn, and all four of Spafford's daughters died. His wife Anna survived and sent him the now famous telegram, "Saved alone . . .". Shortly afterwards, as Spafford traveled to meet his grieving wife, he was inspired to write these words as his ship passed near where his daughters had died.

^{This has always been a favorite hymn of mine so I was extra excited when I learned of the new stamp, It Is Well with My Soul, being released Feb 1 from Our Daily Bread designs!}

I wanted to incorporate The Mighty Sea, also coming Feb 1, with the hymn. I wanted a muted look with the hymn on top. Kraft and pencils came to mind!

I stamped it in a light brown so as not to overpower the hymn. {don’t forget, right clicking on any picture can bring it up larger, in another window}

I love how it turned out! And actually on Kraft with Prismacolor pencils, it went quite fast! I love how the sky turned out!! {this picture was taken with my phone under different lighting, it’s not quite this dark in real life}

Here is the sky before being blended. I thought you might like to see what/how I lay color down. I use the side of the pencil so as not to have defined lines, then blend in a circular motion…sometimes also in the direction I want the colors to move. As in the clouds, they’re drifting off to the left to me, not just ‘up and down’. Make sense? lol
Then I just went back in after it was blended and added more white or a blue for depth.
All blended with Gamsol {most of the time I use baby oil though}

Now, here is something cool! While editing my pics in PSE, I accidentally hit a button that removed the color! GASP!! Now I have to try and make one like this!!! I love it!!

And the best part about making this card… I was singing the hymn the whole time!

Flower Soft Wired and Butterflies

Flower Soft is so versatile, the sky is the limit on how it’s used!

This week over on the FS blog, we’re featuring wire. Yup, wire!

Here’s what I did

I created the flower centers and spike-type flowers with FS wire, FS glue and 2 colors Ocean, Fuchsia.

Cut lengths of wire, add a dab of FS glue to end and roll in FS to coat, stick ends in a piece of foam to dry. (using tweezers or needle nose pliers helps) After assembling the flowers, I used my Cropadile and punched a hole in the centers then inserted the wires.
For the spikey stems, I just bent the wire a bit, put a dab of FS glue and stuck it in place. (you might need to hold or lean it against something until it sets)

Foliage and flowers are Martha Stewart punches.
The card base is a Sizzix folder, Birds and Branches.
Butterflies are ODBD’s 2 Step Butterfly with matching Butterfly 2 Die, sentiment also from ODBD, Birthday Blessings.

Definitely a ‘hand delivered’ card, but that was the plan anyway!

On the Far Side of the Sea…

If you have followed me any time at all, you know I love scenes! This is a sneak peek at a new set coming Feb. 1 from Our Daily Bread designs… oh, I’m having way too much fun!

This is for the Sketch Challenge on Splitcoast. I had actually colored it up yesterday, a full A2 size, hoping I could make it work for the SC! Lucky me, all I had to do was use my Spellbinders Rectangles to cut out the main part and make a frame, then pop it back over! I used blue vellum for the one strip so it wouldn’t cover more of the image and ODBD Fence Border Die for the other strip.

The image is colored with Copics, the waves are painted with white acrylic paint, then I went back over with some Copics to give some depth.

When I colored it up yesterday, I masked the ocean and airbrushed the sky…with wispy motions to give it a sunset, sun rays look. I love how it turned out!

This is going to be a beautiful release…

Our Sassy Challenge is from that oh~so~sassy Jeni, Light Blue and Brown. Love that color combo!!

This is the cutie, Clueless Lucy Lou, colored with Copics, sponged with Distress inks. DP is DCWV Latte, sentiment is from Stamp La Jolla, Spellbinders Labels 23. The sentiment is stamped on the ‘negative’ scrap!

I ended up sending this to my sister-in-law, her birthday always sneaks up on me!! It got mailed ON the day!

Vintage Embossing

Ok, Saturday I showed you a quickly made card that didn’t look so ‘quick’! With some negative dry embossing, some die cuts and a little bling… you can whip these out in no time!

The Technique Challenge on Splitcoast today is using negative embossing but with restrictions… only white or off white cardstock and no dark or bright colors. Here is a good tutorial on this technique. I’m also doing these for the Dry Embossing challenge on the Cheery Lynn Designs blog.

I took the Sizzix folder, Birds and Branches, and brayered Adirondack Sandal as shown in the tute. The verse is from God’s Love, ODBD, in Adirondack Latte. 2 Step Butterflies with matching Butterfly 2 die, also from ODBD, in Spun Sugar and Tattered Rose Distress ink.

I used a page from an old book for the Cheery Lynn Designs Fanciful Flourishes.

Card 2

This one used the same technique, but with a little twist on the Butterfly Embossing Plate from ODBD. I embossed the cardstock with the plate then brayered the ink over …giving the same effect as doing it in a folder, then I embossed that again with Grace’s Frame.

The bottom piece is Cuttlebug Victoria.

The larger butterfly is Cheery Lynn Designs Exotic Butterfly Med. #1. I topped it with Butterfly 2 Die that I embossed with the Butterfly Embossing Plate.
The pearls were white, but using E30 (Bisque) Copic marker on them made them the perfect shade to match the card!

So, even though they look involved,
they’re really quite simple!!

In Need of a Quick Wedding Shower Card!

the plumber’s house always leaks,
the carpenter’s house always needs fixing…

Well, I had a wedding shower to go to this morning and I’ve known about this shower for a few weeks…

All of a sudden……

THIS MORNING

I realized

I DON’T HAVE A SUITABLE SHOWER CARD!!

I know, me… the cardmaker!

So, I whipped up this beauty in a flash!

With the help of lots of dies, my Grand Calibur, layering, pop-dots, an embossing folder and stamps, I made this in the bride-to-be’s colors!

In order of appearance:

Cheery Lynn Designs Canadian Kaleidoscope is the doily

Spellbinders Labels 21, Fleur de Lis Motifs and on the inside, Fleur de Lis Rectangles

I even did the inside too!

The partial FLD rectangle is a little pocket that I tucked a check into.

She loved it!!

So, next time you need a card in a hurry, remember lots of die cuts, embossing, layers… lol!

This is a 3 pc set, top, bottom, and acetate window. It comes pre-cut and scored, ready to decorate, fill and make someone happy!

Before assembling the box, I embossed the top with a pretty embossing folder. I added some flowers and some Martha punched foliage. The sentiment and doily ‘frame’ are from Special Blend, Our Daily Bread designs that I cut by hand.

#97…A Sassy Sketch

We’ve had the warmest Winter here in my neck of the woods…I’d like at least one good snow!!

This sweetheart is simply called Winter. She’s colored with Copics, masked and sponged with Distress inks. White gel pen and Elmer’s paint pen for snow and highlights.
Distress inks: Tumbled Glass close to the image, Faded Jeans, Weathered Wood, Stormy Sky, and a tad bit of Black Soot!

Let’s Not Forget Those Envies…

Lots of fun today with several challenges from Splitcoast! Also, this week the Flower Soft DT is creating with Fuchsia.

The TLC today is to look back at 2011 and pick a favorite technique… ok, there are just sooo many, but I went with decorating the envelope, a challenge from June.
I also did the CAS challenge, using die cuts.

This is Our Daily Bread designs Birthday Blessings, 2 Step Butterfly and ODBD’s exclusive dies Window and Butterfly 2.

No reason why the envelope shouldn’t be as pretty as the card! I just stamped the solid butterfly in Distress Mustard Seed, not inking it up again, but stamping off, giving me variegated images. Then I just stamped the image butterfly in black.

This butterfly stamped the same way, adding some white gel pen and die cut with Butterfly 2 Die. Martha Stewart punches for the foliage. The base is a Sizzix Bricks embossing folder.

I die cut my window first, then cut a piece of cardstock just the right size for my stamped image. Birthday Blessings is colored with Copics, Flower Soft Fuchsia and Lemon were added to the bouquet and loose flowers.

Using a post-it note, I decided where my ‘table’ would be and sponged with whatever Distress ink was still on my applicator, then added a little Tumbled Glass. Flipping the post-it so I could do the ‘wall’, I lightly sponged Mustard Seed.
I cut really narrow strips of foam to pop up the window and attached the scene.

paper: georgia pacific

accessories: Copics, Flower Soft, Flower Soft glue, Window Die, Butterfly 2 Die, Sizzix embossing folder, Martha Stewart punches, mounting foam, white gel pen

So, why not give your mail carrier some cheer and decorate the envelope, I’m sure it’ll make them smile at the PO as it goes through the system!

Just in Time for the Game…or Any Time! Cheeseburger Calzones!

My family just loves these and they’re so easy to whip up! They taste JUST like a cheeseburger! Of course I have to customize several for personal tastes, but that’s easy enough.

The original recipe calls for refrigerated French bread dough, but I just use my pizza crust recipe that is soooo easy. I divide my dough in fourths, but you could easily make one big calzone OR divide the dough more… it’s all up to you!

Here is my pizza dough recipe:

1C hot water (my hot water from the tap comes out the perfect temp for the yeast)
2 1/2 tsp yeast (or one of those little pkts)
1 tsp salt
several glubs EVOO (that’s a technical gourmet cooking term, glubs… probably equals about 2T olive oil!)
2 1/2 C unbleached all purpose flour

Dissolve yeast in hot water, let sit for about 10 min before adding the rest of the ingredients. Add flour gradually until you have a nice workable dough… (you’ll know).

Cover dough with a little more olive oil, cover bowl and set aside while you prepare the cheeseburger stuffing!

Preheat oven to 400*

Basic Cheeseburger ingredients… customize to tastes, omitting or adding or whatever!

1/2 C chopped onion
1/4 C chopped dill pickle
3/4 C ketchup (I cut back the ketchup and add some mayo!)
2 tsp yellow mustard
1 clove garlic, pressed
1# (approximately) lean ground beef/turkey/meat substitute, cooked, crumbled and drained (no need to cook meat substitute)
1 T olive oil
sliced cheese…the choice is yours!

Now, this is where you might need individual bowls for those picky ones that don’t like onions OR pickles OR both! LOL… you get the picture.
Mix all the innards up real good.

Take your divided dough and pat it out, not too thin but not too thick…again, you’ll know *wink*!
Lay cheese slices on dough, top with filling, seal edges of dough around filling.
Drizzle with olive oil, cut vents in top to allow steam to vent.

I sprinkled sesame seeds on these.

Bake 18-20 minutes or until a deep golden brown.

The cheese bubbled out of the slits on that one. Oh, my, I might have to make them again today!! Just looking at the picture…I’m getting hungry!!

Everything’s Coming Up Daisies!

My sweet cyber pal, Dawn, sent me this piece of 140# Cold Press water color paper embossed with Grace’s Frame…I hadn’t water colored for a while, fun! I really should more often!!

I stamped Daisy, from ODBD in Stazon black and used reinkers. When done and dry, I over-stamped the image again using my stamp positioner. This makes the image POP!

The flower centers are Ultra Fine Ocean Flower Soft.

A Friend Like You….My Cup of Tea!

Coffee is my hot beverage of choice, but I do enjoy a cup of tea quite often too!

This is the Mojo Monday sketch with Special Blend from Our Daily Bread designs.

I stamped the ‘doily frame’ and sentiment with Scattered Straw Distress ink and embossed right away with clear ep.
The DP is Alla by Prima. Spellbinders Lotus Pendant is peeking out between the layers.
I’ve had that tea cup punch (Family Treasures) since I first started stamping…probably 9yrs! Poor thing has been so neglected! I attached a piece of string and ‘tea bag tag’ too.
Oh, the solid layers are ‘faux color cardstock’… I just used white and colored the edges with a Copic to match the DP!

Steeped With Love…

I’ve been spinning my wheels all day!
One thing after another ……..

Anyhoo, I got several cards done early this morning, one I’ll share now.

This was the Sketch Challenge on Splitcoast today. I had this fun Promise Me paper with tea cups from SEI, so why not play along and use the new Special Blend set from ODBD!

I stamped the doily frame with Distress Antique Linen…appropriate, no?! and immediately embossed with clear ep. Using my stamp positioner, I stamped the sentiment in Barn Door and embossed.

I had remembered this tea cup punch by Family Treasures, that I bet I’ve had for 9 years and maybe used once or twice! I even knew where it was!

Cute aren’t they! I just popped each one up on a foam piece on top of the Martha Doily Lace Trim punch.

I think this card will go to a friend that is going through a rough time and hopefully bring some cheer with it!

New Beginnings…#96 The First Sassy Challenge of 2012!

Welcome back after our little time off, hope you had a great Christmas and hoping for a happy, healthy 2012 for you!

You might be wondering what Fireman John has to do with this theme…..well, my career college student son who changed his major 3 times, FINALLY graduated with his degree… Bachelor of Fine Arts! Woohooo, whistles, fireworks…… he is an awesome artist… BUT, he decided he wants to be a fireman!

He’s made it through the civil service test, physical test (placing in the top level), polygraph test, and interview…..now he’s just waiting to hear from the department some time this month!

Fireman John is one Cheryl drew at my request a while ago, little did I know I’d be using it for someone so special! *Edited* Cheryl now has this image up in the store here!!

He’s colored with Copics, edges sponged with Distress inks.

The base is stamped with a Winston Churchill quote from Never Give Up, Our Daily Bread designs.

I stamped the verse from the set, cutting LOVE out and popped it atop the Spellbinders Fancy Tags 3.

I finished off the inside with with a sponged piece of DP and the Michael Card song quote.

My Last Post of 2011…

Another year…whoosh! Thanks to all who have stopped by!

I managed to catch this cute little guy chowing down corn before he skittered away! They’re so fun to watch.

I have to share a couple of Christmas pics too, mostly to annoy my oldest granddaughter! She’s such a rebel, out of the entire family who cheers on OSU…she follows Michigan! So, for Christmas I made her puppy, Keeper… a Boxer, several sweatshirts. After all, Boxers don’t have much hair and he gets cold when he has to go outside! And yes, he’s still growing…he’s only 9 months old!

Before the festivities started, I kept Carmen busy while her mom and uncle dressed Keeper in his ‘casual’ sweatshirt.

Of course Carm had to run put on her ‘M’ sweatshirt! I also made Keeper a more stylish one for when he wants to dress up.

Can’t wait to see him in this one! LOL

I think he’s happy with it! LOL… smart dog!

Another surprise was a new puppy for Benjamin…just too cute! A Beagle-Blue Heeler mix. Awwww

And……………… a card to share too! Another look at what’s being released tomorrow, Jan 1 from ODBD!

This is Never Give Up combined with Grunge Cross Background, and the Grunge Cross with Grunge Cross Die! I love the grunge look…the more distressing, the better!

All the DP is Prima Moulin Rouge, dry embossed, sponged, distressed and over-stamped! The Grunge Cross Background is on the green layer, stamped in Distress Pumice Stone.
The Churchill quote is also in Pumice Stone on the cross layer.

This is a Z-fold card. The card measures 5x5. The top was scored at 2.5 and folded back toward the fold…then the grunge front was attached just to that part.

Kind of fun to break out of the normal side or top fold card! *Note to self*… do it more often!
I stamped the Churchill quote again in Pumice Stone on the inside strip then stamped the verse in black.

Sandhill Cranes and a Cheery Pocket Window

The other day I stepped outside and heard this ruckus in the sky… a huge flock of Sandhill Cranes was flying over! Luckily I had my camera and snapped this shot before they flew out of view. We could hear them long after they were just specks in the sky! There were probably this many more in the flock, but I zoomed in as much as possible and cut them out. Cool!

So, here’s a Pocket with Window & Tag card from Creative Cuts and More I made yesterday. And another peek at the set, God’s Love, from Our Daily Bread designs. The pocket is dry embossed with Swiss Dots.

Without Regret…

I used My Mind’s Eye Vanity Fair for this card. The Grunge Butterfly Background is stamped in Distress Victorian Velvet, the grungy butterfly flourish from God’s Love is stamped with Distress Spun Sugar and the 2 Step Butterfly is done with them both.

The one piece is dry embossed with the Victoria folder, then lightly sanded for more grunge! I love that 2 Step Butterfly too…don’t need to color!! And the die makes fussy cutting so easy!

Every year I do up a little ‘something’ for our mail carrier…this year, Lisa will get this… filled with a chocolate mint cappuccino mix, a white hot chocolate mix and candy!

I thought Sally’s Letter from Sassy Cheryl’s was the perfect image! She’s colored with Copics, with a little airbrush ‘splatter’ in the background. I used Elmer’s Paint pen for the polka dots and snowflakes. I also added some Stickles for snowflakes.

Merry Christmas is from the set Holiday Ornaments, Our Daily Bread designs.

I thought the inside of the Cheery Lynn Designs Dainty Dutch Deco doily, looked like a snowflake…it’s cut in half and sandwiched between the layers. This is such a cool die because you get 2 actual dies!

And of course I had to add some Polar White Flower Soft!

I Love My Snowmen…#95 a Sassy Challenge!

Our Sassy Challenge today is from Sassy Judy, Snowman with a die cut. I just loooove snowmen and Cheryl’s are just the cutest!

The sassy gals will be taking a bit of a much needed break to celebrate the holidays with their families. So this challenge will be our last for 2011.. AND, it will last for two weeks, so you'll have plenty of time to get your creation made and uploaded to join us in our challenge.

I needed a birthday card for a very good, but snarky friend…. Sassy Sally Plays a Trick is just perfect! LOL

It’s colored with Copics then sponged while still in the Spellbinders Labels 21 die with Distress Weathered Wood.
The sentiment, also perfect, is by Art Impressions. I used Spellbinders Small Labels and just cut it down. Classic Ric Rac, another Spellbinders die was also used. The DP is by DCWV.

I added Polar White Flower Soft to her hat, dress and on the ground. For extra fun I added some Baker’s Twine to the buttons & scarves.

A Card…A New DT…and A Sale!

I did this card last week but waited to blog it until now. On a lark, just a whim…. I sent a couple samples into the Flower Soft team for the 2012 DT.

Lo and behold………………….
I made it!! Woohoo!!

This isn’t the card I sent in..I’ll share that in a minute. This card was for the Free For All challenge on Splitcoast…to use flowers. I stamped Daisy from Our Daily Bread designs, masked it and stamped 2 more times, colored with Copics and did some fussy cutting! Then I added Nut Brown Flower Soft to the centers and set it aside to dry while I stamped Simple Things, also from ODBD.

Here is the card I sent in, using Christmas Vintage Post Box and Polar White. I used a Martha punch for the corners.

Christmas Baking and a Cookie Party!

Yes, it’s that time of year that so many are busy baking all those goodies for the holidays! Me? The older I get the lazier I get!! Plus I figure if I bake it… I’m gonna EAT it! My waistline doesn’t need all that! LOL!!

A friend always has a “Cookie Exchange” party… bring 6 dozen cookies and everybody shares! Makes my job that much easier!

I made ‘snowballs’, a recipe my mom always made only at Christmas. You might know them as Mexican Wedding Cookies… I like SNOWballs…lol, you knew that!

Here they are just out of the oven….cool a little then pop in powdered sugar. I like to coat them once, let them cool some more then give them another dusting of powdered sugar.

I also made some Almond Roca, a little dish to take to the hostess and the rest for our pleasure and entertaining. I’m thinking though, I should have taken a bigger portion to the party…. it is soooo good I’m afraid how much I’ll eat!

Almond Roca to me is special… growing up it was something we only had at Christmas. After I got married, moved away from home, had children and mom would come to visit, many times she’d bring a can of Almond Roca! In fact one of the kids said tonight, “Gee, Grandma always used to bring this!”

Mine wasn’t quite as pretty as the picture where I got the recipe… I had to hurry mine along a bit in order to leave for the party…but it sure tasted YUMMY!!
I toasted the almonds in the oven as it was warming up to bake the snowballs…I can still multitask!

Anyhoo, it was a hit at the party! This is where I got the recipe… and just a warning, once you visit you better have time cause you’ll get lost in there, and find lots of recipes you’ll want to try! Just sayin!

It was a nice evening of food, fellowship and fun…just us girls! Here are a few pics of the house, it looks like out of a magazine!

This wasn’t part of the exchange…
this was dessert! Yum

Everybody brings a fun container, we play a game passing our container left or right as the hostess reads a funny story with the words ‘left’ ‘right’ in it and everyone ends up with a different container. It’s a lot of fun….slap happy fun!

It’s a Blizzard out there! #94…a Sassy Challenge

Our Sassy Challenge this week, again comes from our sassy pencil queen, Judy… It’s a Blizzard…White on White! Unfortunately, it’s rain for us this week! Ugh! I hate mud!!!

I don’t know where Cheryl got my picture to go by for this one called, “Winter”!

Come the first good snowfall you’re going to see me out in the yard enjoying it just like this darling image!! LOL

A little coloring with Copics, some white gel pen, Marvy snow marker (with some Stickles added)…a little too much sponging with Pumice Stone Distress ink (it was done, what was I to do! lol), and some Blizzard Mudd Puddles! (perfect for the challenge! lol) Mudd Puddles goes on wet and dries hard yet still pliable!

Simply Done…a Birthday Bag

My dear daughter-in-law’s birthday is coming up, Dec. 25 to be exact!
I always try to make her card or whatever as far away from looking
‘Christmasy’ as possible.
This year I’m going with this bag!

This is a Tuck & Close Bag from Creative Cuts & More. The die cut comes pre-scored, all you have to do is assemble and decorate!

I stamped the sentiment from Simple Things by Our Daily Bread designs on the ribbon in black, adhered to the bag and added my embellishments! Voila! Beautiful, elegant gift bag in no time!

There is just one seam to stick together, the rest are these cute flaps.

I know… simple things amuse me! LOL

I’ll be tucking a check or gift card inside, but it’s plenty big enough to hold a variety of things.

Honeycomb….a Break from Christmas Cards

I’m happy to say I’m DONE with my Christmas cards! All but one have been sent out…yippee! I do love making them, but I’m thankful for the breather!

Another great Sketch Challenge on Splitcoast today! I decided to flip mine vertically.

I used 4 of the new December releases from Our Daily Bread designs, Little Things, Daisy, Simple Things (the bees), and Honeycomb Background!

I stamped the Daisy & bees on Kraft and colored with Prismacolor pencils blending with baby oil. After coloring the flowers, and using my stamp positioner, I over-stamped the image. (meaning I stamped over the top of the colored image… this helps define the lines lost from coloring over with pencil and makes it POP!) Each bee was cut out, cutting off legs and antenna (they didn’t feel a thing!), then when I got ready to place them… I stamped the bee (giving me the legs etc) and popped a match over top!

I stamped the Honeycomb Background onto Kraft also with Versamark and Distress Scattered Straw. (although the Distress inks stay wetter longer and can be embossed, I wanted to make sure I had enough moisture there to catch the clear embossing powder…since it was such a large area… hence the Versamark too!)

After embossing, I sponged with more Distress inks….Mustard Seed, Scattered Straw and Wild Honey.

The DP is Vanity Fair by My Mind’s Eye, border punch by Fiskars.

#93…HoHoHo… a Sassy Challenge

Our Sassy Challenge this week is from that Sassy Prisma Pencil Queen, Judy, and she picked “Santa”.

Ok, so I’ve had a hectic week….yeah, I can hear you now, “WHO HASN’T?!”… I got all these gifts toppers done up and thought… perfect, I can use them for the challenge! Then I checked what it was… oops…

So, here’s what I figured… “Santa” could mean a lot of things… like milk and cookies OR a Cup of Cocoa and cookies!

I’m sure the mail carriers were going crazy with this delivery… White Christmas coffee! A blend of chocolate, caramel, vanilla and cherry…oh my, it smelled sooooo good in the baggies! That’s where the toppers came in with this adorable image. I cropped her in an oval with a stroke outline, copied her and added the wording, and colored with Copics. She’s just too cute!!

That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it! LOL…hey, I’d love for someone to leave me coffee and cookies after a long haul!

Raindrops on Roses….

Ugh…it’s a rainy day here! You know I’d much rather see snow!! It is in the forecast though…yippee!

A couple of cards to share today. I made my goal of getting the cards done I needed for the weekend, over 60! Now it’s just a few stragglers here and there to mail out and I’m done! I’m even 99% done with my Christmas shopping!! Woohoo!!

This card was for the Technique (using buttons) and the CAS… clean and simple (using twine) on Splitcoast.

I used Our Daily Bread designs Peace & Joy with matching snowflake die and Holiday Ornaments 2 for the verse. The snowflake is embossed with holographic embossing powder.
I found this old button in the bottom of my button can and thought it looked like snowflakes.
The embossing folder is Stampin’ Up

And the second card…

Although it looks involved, it was really quite quick and simple to throw together!

A combo of Holiday Ornaments 1 & 2 stamped in Adirondack Aqua, Spellbinders dies, Cheery Lynn die, a couple Martha punches and the snowflake embossing folder again. I used silver embroidery floss to hang the ornaments and silver elastic cording (saved from a random box!) for the bow.

Cranking Them Out…it’s easy!

My goal was to get all my Christmas cards done by today….and I’m so close to that! Woohoo!!

Along with all the challenges on Splitcoast where I’ve made as many Christmas cards as possible, I’ve also cranked these out….

With a quick run through the Cuttlebug with different embossing folders, and using the new Holiday Ornaments 2 that matches Spellbinders Holiday Tags from Our Daily Bread designs, these were made in no time!

I decided to use a shipping tag for my ‘tag’ card! I stamped Stitch Background in Distress Pumice Stone. (I see this BG being used for so much more than just stitching!) Then I sponged the tag edges with Distress Vintage Photo, Aged Mahogany and Walnut Stain.

Each of the Holiday Ornaments 2 were stamped in black then sponged while still in the Spellbinders Holiday Tags die with Vintage Photo.

I used cotton crochet thread to suspend my tags, and popped 3 of them up.
I also made some tags the other day without the sentiment, just right for my packages!
BTW… I designed the set and Kelley added the wording! I love her insight of knowing just the right font to use!

I finished off the backside with another piece of cardstock cut to fit the tag, sponged the edges and added last month’s release, Sacred Season & Ornaments 2 sentiments.

Here’s another one… see what I mean about that Stitch Background?! Buzzing Bee trails!

Daisy and the Bees from Simple Things stamped and masked to stamp the Stitch Background, colored with Copics, then embossed with clear embossing powder . I then sponged the image while still in the Spellbinders Labels 21 die with Tumbled Glass and wiped the excess with a paper towel.
The quote is stamped on SEI Sunny Day in the Spellbinders Ornate Artisan Tags & Accents and sponged with Wild Honey.

Another Sneak Peek….

A little break from Christmas cards today… but my plan is to finish up this week so I can get the bulk of them out this weekend! Whew! Stamp marathon coming up!

And guess what…!!!…. It SNOWED this evening!

This is Simple Things and matching Clover Die, available the 1st from Our Daily Bread designs. I’m always excited at release time, even more so when we get a matching die!!

See those teeny tiny bees? Yup, they’re part of the die cut! Too cute!! It’s colored with Copics. The DP is Prima Alla, the Spellbinders die is Fleur de Lis Squares.

But, WAIT…. there’s more! I did another one, same sketch, but totally different look!

This is The Word of God, also available the 1st. When I started this one, it just had an ‘old’ feel to it…. especially when I decided to do Cracked Glass!

I put 3 layers of UTEE (ultra thick embossing powder) after heavily sponging with Distress inks… set it aside while I did the card layout, then cracked it. Then I took my Walnut Stain pad direct to the cracked glass, which let it seep into the cracks, then I wiped the excess ink off with a paper towel. Cool, huh!

The DP is Bo Bunny Timepiece, the Spellbinders die is Lg/Sm Labels.

I think you’re really going to love this release! The girls have made some fantabulous samples! Of course I think that every month! LOL!

No Shopping for Me…Just A Sneak Peek!

You can stand in line and fight the crowd for those deals…but I’ll take my cozy bed and home comfort thank you! Did you get what you went for? Maybe 10, 20 years ago I might have braved it… lol!

Anyhoo, this is a peek at some awesome new stuff coming Dec 1 from Our Daily Bread designs, Honeycomb Background and Simple Things.

I stamped the Honeycomb Background and the quote in…wait for it… Wild Honey Distress ink. This is a Picture Frame Fold-Up Card from Creative Cuts & More, Bazzill Sugar Cookie Criss Cross. It’s made to put a photo then a flap covers it on the back side, and then it opens like a normal card… leaving the inside looking “finished”! I decided to put the quote there instead, stamped on white.

Ok….see the awesome clover? It has a matching die! Way cool!! And those little bees too! The larger bees are part of the same set, I cut those out myself.

Here’s the inside.

I added a piece of black cs that made the whole thing pop! This set and background is going to be so fun.

Well… I think I’m going to have a piece of pie!

Did She OR Didn’t She… A Sale and Anything Goes #91 Sassy Challenge

Last week you remember we tried to stump Cheryl who claims she can tell which designer makes which card! Oh yeah….she’s SASSY alright…so aptly named! She thinks she’s sooooo smart!

This week our Sassy Challenge is from our 0h-so-talented Sassy Pat, Anything Goes.

But before I get to my card for today, I have a sale to tell you about!

This is Noah and Patches, awww, aren’t they cute! I haven’t used my water color pencils in quite some time, so I dusted them off for this one!

So, what was your guess for last week’s challenge? Did you think Cheryl would even come close?? Oh, I can hear her now….last year she claimed WE cheated, how I don’t know!!
This year I mixed it up a bit by NOT using Copics like I usually do and using Prismacolor Pencils like Sassy Judy. I also tried to create my card like one of our ex-Sassy gals, Alina! AND I did the inside of mine like Sassy Pat (well, maybe not just like hers…that woman is phenomenal!)

So….here we go! I HATE to admit it….but, dang, she’s good!

For my card, I used this fun Skiing Snowman digi…too cute right?! He’s colored with Copics and some Sakura white gel pen.

For my background I stamped some of my ‘rubber’ CHF images, Christmas Expressions and Joyeux Noel. The snowflakes were stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with Ranger Holographic and Antique Gold embossing powder, then sponged with Distress ink for some emboss resist.

I thought he’d look cute flying down the slopes… I tore strips of cardstock and laid them at an angle on my base, then trimmed the edges even.

All the edges have Icicle Stickles just like glistening snow!

A Little Bird Told Me…..

Cornish Heritage Farms is back under new ownership and having a Grand Re-0pening tomorrow with a blog hop!

If you missed my first post about CHF, that’s where I got my start on a design team! Lots of memories!

I love birds, so when I saw this digi I had to have it! I’m calling it simply, Robin. Right now the images have a number but I’m sure will have names once the store is up and running!
It’s colored with Copics, sponged with Distress inks. The layer the Robin is on it just white cardstock that I drug my Distress ink pad over.

The rose is Spellbinders Spiral Blossom 1. I didn’t want the tulle to be so stark white, so I just used a Copic close in color to the DP and ‘dirtied’ it up a bit! I also hit the ribbon and tulle lightly with my heat tool to distress them. Oh, and the leaves are Spellbinders Shadow Flowers. The DP is DCWV Mirabelle.

Another CHF Peek!

The Grand Re-Opening of Cornish Heritage Farms is just a couple of days away! Here is another peek at one of the digis that will be available.

BTW….not all CHF stamps will be digis, but with soooo many images, over 2000!… Tanya decided what doesn’t go to rubber will become digital. Cool!

I’m going to call this one Jingle Bells Poinsettia, it’s colored with Copics and sponged with Distress ink. The base is embossed with Holly Ribbons and that twill is some I’ve had forevah, probably from Michaels or Joann’s.

One more Christmas card down…. how many more to go??!!!

Seems I’ve Come Full Circle!

Way back in 2007 I was accepted on my very first design team, Cornish Heritage Farms. I had a good time, made new friends and learned sooo much! I eventually went on to other DT’s and the owners decided to sell the company.

Fast forward a few years….

I was contacted a few weeks back about making some samples for the Grand Re-opening of CHF! Wow! Really?! Sure!!

This is one of the digitals that will soon be available. I’m calling it Top Hat Snowman (as he just has a # right now). The sentiment is from an older set called, Joyeux Noel.
He’s colored with Copics and a little white gel pen. I put some Blizzard Mudd Puddles on for fun too!

The next card is a free digi Tanya offered this week! Flower Wheel Barrow. How cool is that! Check out the CHF blog too for another special!

Here’s a card I did using the digi.

I made it ‘Fallish’, colored with Copics, sponged with Distress ink. I sent it as a ‘thinking of you/get well’ to my hay man who just got out of the hospital. Perfect for a farmer!

A Fairly Quick Gift Bag!

Have a gift but need to wrap it and have NO wrapping paper? Are you like me and save all those bags….because ONE day you’re going to need them?!

I took this ‘Prada’ bag from who-knows-what, and quickly slapped some embossed, stamped and colored cardstock on it… stamped, colored and die cut my bird, stamped and embossed Merry Christmas on my ornament….and voila! A decorated gift bag!

All images are Our Daily Bread designs… You Will Find Refuge/Chickadee Die, Sacred Season, and Holiday Ornaments.

After embossing the background with my Holly Ribbons folder, I used a scrap oval mask (the cut out oval hole) and my scoring tool to flatten out the embossed area where the pinecones would go, stamped them with the ‘oval mask’ in place, then colored with Copics. I used Icy Stickles for the snow, Spellbinders ovals for the frame.

You all know I love this Chickadee! Using the Chickadee Die makes it so easy for those fussy parts!

This ornament is stamped on white cardstock! I stamped in black, stamped and embossed the Merry Christmas in gold ep…then using my Distress ink, I applied it DTP (direct to paper)! Then used Spellbinders Holiday Tags to die cut.

Gold embroidery floss holds it to the branch, both the ornament and Chickadee are popped up.

Cool, huh!

Swirling Snowflakes…but on a card, not for real!

Y’all know I love snow…but I’m not quite ready for the white stuff just yet!

The sketch challenge today on Splitcoast is an easy one with simple layers. Here’s what I did…

This is Our Daily Bread designs Snowflake Background, embossed in silver, and Ornaments 2, also embossed in silver.
While still in the Spellbinders 2011 Heirloom Ornaments die, I sponged Distress Bundled Sage on the tree and Tumbled Glass on the rest…wiping with a paper towel afterwards to remove any ink left on the silver embossing. I also sponged over the swirling snowflakes on the base layer.

If you go to a show where ODBD is set up, you can get some of this cool Mirror paper! I embossed it with the Swiss Dots folder. The trim is some I’ve had in my stash forevah! As a finishing touch, I added some white gel pen to the snowflake centers.

Well, it’s yucky rain here today which means it’s not cold enough for snow! So, for that I’m thankful… but you know when it does get cold enough I’ll be doing the happy dance to see the ground covered with Snow!

Our Sassy Challenge this week is from Sassy talented Peggy…Embossing, wet or dry. Remember you can play along and you don’t have to use a Sassy Cheryl’s image, BUT if you do you double your chances of winning!!

This is Cup of Cocoa… such a cutie and so perfect for so many kinds of sentiments and occasions! She’s colored with Copics. Her cup is embossed with clear ep, I embossed the chair back thingy… what are those called anyway? I remember when I was little there were doilies there… anyhoo… I embossed it by taking my embossing folder on the front and stylus on the backside only in that area!

The sentiment (by Stampabilities I think) is also embossed with clear ep. The bottom edge is Spellbinders Edgeabilities with an embossed piece behind. The DP is DCWV Holiday Collection.

A Quick Project With the Help of a Pre-Cut Box!

Two simple projects today, a gift box and a card to go along!

The box is from Creative Cuts and More, a Tuck Top Cube Box. It comes die cut and scored, all you have to do is decorate it!
I used the new set, Sacred Season, from Our Daily Bread designs, embossed in gold…both for the pine bough and sentiments.
I embossed the box first with Holly Ribbons, the band with Snow Dots.

It’s colored with Copics then I added “snow” with a Marvy Snow Marker.
I partially cut the window with ODBD Elegant Ovals by using my Cuttlebug (so I could see where to stop) and turning it several times until I got ‘close’ to the pine bough. I finished any cutting with a craft knife.

A bow done on the Bow Easy popped at the bottom, and it’s done! Easy peasy!

Let It Snow! A Masking Tutorial

I had a masking question on my last post with the ODBD release, by email, hoping for a tutorial. I know I’m a visual person, so I took step by step pics of how I created this card.

This is Warm Wishes and the sketch this week from Splitcoast, flipped.

I started by stamping the image where I wanted to start on my cardstock, then stamped it again on a sticky note. Then I cut around the image very close to the line or just to the inside. Trees are so easy to do because there is no hard edge.

Here is the mask covering the stamped image.

Sometimes having a scrap piece of copy paper or other sticky notes come in handy to mask certain areas. You don’t want to use cardstock as that is too thick.

And here is the final piece.

I could have made an entire pine forest, masking and stamping to the back….but I wanted a blue sky!

It’s colored with Copics and the snow is a Marvy Snow Marker. I’ve had the wooden sign, by Darice, for several years! I went out and picked a twig for my hanger.

I hope I’ve explained so it makes sense and inspired you to go give it a try!

This is Warm Wishes…. I squealed with joy when I saw this one!! You know how I looove snowmen!! And then to make it even better… is the Windows die that matches!! How much FUN is that!!

There is a sheet of acetate sandwiched behind the window and I also added Polar White Flower Soft to look like snow!

I stamped my image once, made a mask and stamped several more times to get the trees, adding more Flower Soft and some sponged clouds.

Fun, right?!

Over 100 comments and lots of fun ideas on this Mudd Puddles Give-Away!! Here’s one I tried.

Used the Christmas Lights Sea Glass on glass. I put it on with the icing knife, little bits at a time all at once, BUT… next time I’d put some on, let it set then add a little more waiting to add more until it dries a little bit.

It’s so cool on the glass!! I also used Blizzard on the card.

Now, here is a peek at several of the new sets coming from Our Daily Bread designs on November 1!! Gift of God, Sacred Season and Ornaments 2.

This next release is surely going to knock your socks off!! A must have for your holiday/Christmas projects!!

I stamped on red Mirror cs with Versamark ink, sprinkled on Ranger Detail Gold embossing powder and heat set… then used Spellbinders 2011 Heirloom Ornaments that matches this set! One of the sentiments from Sacred Season was stamped also with Versamark and embossed in gold. The die is ODBD Elegant Ovals. For the bottom I used Spellbinders Classic Ric Rac Edgeabilities. The dp is Prima North Country.

The pinecones/pine boughs come from Gift of God and Sacred Season. I stamped those with Black Soot distress ink and quickly embossed with clear ep, colored with Copics and cut out with a craft knife. Embossing makes “fussy” cutting easier! They have Marvy Snow Marker, heated to puff, for the snow.

Well, we had a killing frost last night… I think the garden might be FINALLY DONE!! We picked 14 POUNDS of jalapenos the other evening and I canned 14 more quarts of pickled peppers! I think we have enough to last a lifetime!! I still have about 4# to do something with today… maybe poppers to just enjoy!!

I used Colorbox Chalk Rouge ink to color my layers and stamp the images. I also used Serve the Lord with it’s matching Crocheted Circle Die…perfect with this set! I also used Spellbinders Fancy Tags II, Circles and Petite Scallop Circles.

What Inspires You…#87 A Sassy Inspiration!

Keeping with the PINK theme for October, here’s how I was inspired!

This is Autumn Bench Sitter and couldn’t be anymore perfect for the weather and leaf color around my neck of the woods! Isn’t she cute!!

She’s colored with Copics, some white gel pen for highlights and some Polar White Flower Soft on her hat!

The background was done by selecting some of the leaves in PSE7 and making a half sheet of “leafy” paper! I colored them with Copics, went over each with a Versamarker, clear embossed, then sponged some Distress inks over the leaves, wiping with a paper towel to remove any ink… emboss resist!

I used Spellbinders Labels 15 which was, I thought, close to the plates in the picture!

Simple Elegance…and more Sea Glass!

Trying to keep making a Christmas card or two a week so I’m not scrambling in December! Here’s one I made today… with the look of elegance but super quick and simple!

Once again, I used Christmas Lights Sea Glass from Mudd Puddles! I just used tweezers and picked out the blue pieces!
I stamped the Holiday Ornament from Our Daily Bread designs with Versamark, then heat embossed with Ranger Detail Gold EP, then used Spellbinders Holiday Tags.

My layers are Mirror paper from ODBD and just plain white, embossed and die cut with Spellbinders Classic Triple Scallop Edgeabilities. The greeting is also embossed in gold. This is also the Sketch Challenge on Splitcoast.

Some ribbon tied with gold embroidery floss tops it off… and voila! Pure elegance! It’s really much prettier in person too…that mirror paper is a tough one to photo!

#86 A Sassy Sketch

Our Sassy Challenge … still working in pink for the month of October and a sketch too!

I started out following the sketch…honest! I mean, shoot-far…I’m the one that came up with it! I had to flip mine because when I cut my triangles, I cut the wrong direction! LOL…

This is Farmer Sally, too cute, right?! She’s colored with Copics and sponged with Distress ink. I made the background paper in PSE7 by taking just the carrots and duplicating.

I can so relate to her… have you seen any of my garden posts?! LOL

Tongue Twisters…. Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Peppers…

and they’re not all pickled yet!

Does he think I have nothing better to do??!! With a “smile and I’ll be back LATER”… Lloyd brought in this bowl of jalapenos and cayenne, and a bowl of broccoli!

Yesterday I canned 3 quarts of pickled jalapenos and made Red Pepper Jelly (bell peppers with a few jalapenos)!

Soooo, now what to do! I did find a recipe for Jalapeno Jelly that has pineapple and apricot jello, sounds interesting!

It’s raining, and although I’d rather be stamping… I guess I’ll start canning! Come Winter I know all these things will taste soooo good!

Oh, and by the way… HE does the broccoli, I can’t handle finding a worm!!! Ewwwww!

You Warm My Heart… #85 A Sassy Challenge

Our Sassy Challenge this week is to
use die cuts and of course PINK!

I also played along in the Catered Crop challenge that Sassy Cheryl’s is sponsoring. Check it out!

Isn’t she just the sweetest! This is April’s Umbrella, colored with Copics. While still in the Spellbinders Ornate Artisan Tags & Accents, I sponged Old Paper and Faded Jeans Distress inks.
The sentiment and heart are from a Kim Hughes set called Hugs & Kisses.
The leafy vines are Cheery Lynn Designs Fanciful Flourish.

I used Stickles on the heart.

I added some Beach Glass, new from Mudd Puddles.

I thought the sand was a fun product…this Beach Glass is awesome! I’ll be doing a HUGE give-away of Mudd Puddles next week…so stay tuned!

Double Joy with Ice Sea Glass

When I got some new product from Dave at

I couldn’t wait to use it!
I thought the “sand” was cool..

Today’s technique challenge on Splitcoast is to use at least 2 background stamps, “Stack Up The Background”.

I decided to use Our Daily Bread designs Snowflake Background (stamped in Versamark and heat embossed with holographic and white ep) and Joy To The World Hymn (stamped in black).

This was a super quick card to make and put together… no coloring!

I stamped ODBD Joy Tree using 6 Distress inks and embossed with clear ep, and sponged the edges. Then I popped it up and added my Ice Sea Glass!

Cool, huh!

My Pictures On Canvas! What Fun!

A few weeks ago I was asked by
Easy Canvas Prints
if I’d like to have one of my pictures put to canvas and write a review. I checked out their site
and was in love! You betcha!!

The only problem was …
WHAT to send them!!

You know me, always taking pictures and adding fun effects or wordart. I decided to go with one of my Nova Scotia trip pics.

Let me tell you, Easy Canvas Prints is super easy to navigate. They walk you through each step and you have the chance to see what the end result will look like before making your final decision. Even Customer Service was very helpful. They’re eager to please for sure!

Mine is 11x14 but you can customize your own in a wide variety of sizes. They also offer different border options. Since my photo had a grunged edge, I decided to have my border color continue on in white.

I’d actually had another quote on this picture, but Timothy thought this one would be better…so we sat down and came up with this wordart. I LOVE IT!

So, next thing I know,

is having a sale. I HAD to get another!

This is a picture Timothy took with his phone! This is an 8x10 and this time we went with the black border.
