Homegrown….a Peek

CCM Sliding Popup blk

Once again we have a HUGE garden, unfortunately weather conditions this year delayed planting and made a difference in production! Not that I won’t be canning or freezing… just not doing as much of it!

Lloyd planted this Big Bertha variety of bell pepper this year… aptly named!

BigBertha1

BigBertha2

Each one cut in half equals about a regular pepper! They’re in the freezer for use when snow is on the ground and the plants are long gone!

Today I think I’ll make Pina Colada Zucchini Jam! And next week I will be canning tomatoes.

******************

Okay, now for a peek at something new from
Our Daily Bread designs
available Sept. 1

CCM Sliding Popup

This is Seed Packet stamped in Distress Forest Moss and Fired Brick and sponged with Wild Honey, Scattered Straw and Bundled Sage, Tea Dye, and Walnut Stain. The leafy filigree is colored with Copics.

It’s a Sliding Pop-Up card from Creative Cuts and More . I think these are so fun and so different from the “ho hum” side fold card! Everything comes cut and scored ready to embellish and assemble. The cardstock is Neenah Smooth White and Bazzill Leapfrog Canvas.

CCM Sliding Popup open

You can make them pull either way, I chose to pull down on the mechanism which I embossed with Iron Works embossing border. I added a “white writing area” and stamped the little pot from another new set coming, Garden Tag Set.

Well, I guess it’s time to get busy, that zucchini needs shredded!
Adding the pic of the jam…tastes pretty good!

#78 A Sassy Challenge and a Card For Cole

Aug23 blk
Our Sassy Challenge today comes from that Sassy gal, Judy, to use Lavender, White and Green. You can play along, just be sure to use a Sassy Cheryl’s image… you could be a winner!
I made this card for a very special young man, Cole. You can read Cole’s story here and some of his progress here. My heart goes out to him and his family.
Aug23
I used Thinking Only of You (boy) and Thinking Only of You (girl), and merged the two together in PSE7. They are colored with Copics, masked and airbrushed for the background.
I used a craft knife and cut just the parts where the Cheery Lynn Victorian Picket Fence could slide in behind.
The sun is from Hello Sunshine by Mark’s Finest Papers, the sentiment is from Mini Tags 3 by Our Daily Bread designs.

Aren’t they just darling…

Polished Stone on Tile!

TW blk framed

I hopefully have a relatively quick, fun technique made even better with the awesome release of
Scripture Series 2 and Scrolly Borders
from Our Daily Bread designs.
Thanks to YOU, our customers, for these wonderful Scriptures!

Here are the supplies you'll need to make this project:

A Glossy 4x4 tile from your home improvement store (it must be glossy in order to do the technique!), alcohol inks, isopropyl alcohol, ink aplicator. (ink colors used were Slate, Latte, Eggplant and a Copper Mixative by Ranger).

Tip: Experiment on a piece of glossy cardstock before starting your tile to get the feel and look you’re wanting.

Start by putting several drops of the colors on your applicator.

Dab all over the tile until you get the "look" you want. Try not to fill in, leave some blank spaces for the ink to "run" and blend. You don't want to muddy it up!

Next, spritz your applicator with the alcohol, this will magically make your inks blend.

I love how it turned out! I almost hated to cover it up!! LOL

At this stage I sponged the edges with Black Soot Distress ink (more added later as you'll see!)

Now, for the next step you'll need:

Tissue paper, stamps, Mod Podge, and a stamp positioner helps. I'm a "finger painter" type gal, you might also want a foam brush or paint brush.

Stamp your Scrolly Borders image twice as shown (this is where the stamp positioner comes in handy!) or as you choose. Tear the tissue rather than cut it. This will make it more "invisible" when you adhere it to the tile! (I used Tuxedo Black by Memento)

Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the tile, then position the tissue over it and apply a thicker coat. Carefully press out any bubbles. Set aside to thoroughly dry.

You can also adhere a piece of thin cork to the back so it doesn't slide or scratch surfaces.

I also sponged some more Black Soot Distress ink around the edges before giving it a good coat of a clear sealer.

If you’re at a craft show and
Our Daily Bread designs
is there, stop by the booth and see it!

I hope I've inspired you to try something different!

Los Llameros de St Paris 4H Show 2011

After almost a week at fair,
the kids and llamas were more than ready
to be done and go home!
All the kids did a fantastic job showing in Showmanship and Obstacle.
Thanks to all my mom helpers and to our judge, Becky Raber!

At the end of our show we had some audience participation with "Musical Llamas"... just like musical chairs only you have to lead your llama around the circle and when the music stops you have to get your llama to put one foot on the carpet! Easy, right?! HAHA! Then we had an "Egg and Spoon" race... only the "egg" was a ping-pong ball!

After our show is the King of the Ring contest. Most all the 1st place showmen from the entire fair week compete to see just who is "King of the Ring", they have to show all the animals represented! So far, llamas haven't been able to get a toe into the competition, but this year we did get to participate! They asked us to bring the llamas over so the 10 contestants could do the "egg and spoon" race while their points were being tabulated! What fun! The show arena was jam-packed! Two heats of 5 each and those kids had NO clue about llamas! LOL!

I've put together a slide show for you, sit back and enjoy!

Whew! I’ve been playing catch-up what with being at the fair all last week then working 2 days at Stampaway… I had mountains of laundry and floors that hadn’t been vacuumed in…um… well, you get the idea! (yeah, nobody but me knows how to run the vacuum!! LOL)

And speaking of Stampaway… I got to meet Kecia!! Such a sweetie! I’m glad you introduced yourself, Kecia! It’s always fun to meet my cyber buddies!

Our Sassy Challenge this week,
again from that Sassy Jeni,
is Sewing, real or faux.

When I saw Little Knitter I knew I had to have her! Being a hand-spinner and knitter she is just perfect!

Aug16

Isn’t she just adorable! I colored her with Copics, then cut her out with scissors and craft knife. She’s set atop a Cheery Lynn die, Dainty Dutch Deco Frame. I hand stitched some yarn around the inside.
The sentiment is from
Our Daily Bread designs, Sewn With Love, and is machine stitched. Spellbinders Labels 8 trimmed around embossed area then I used the same die for the mat… “faux color” cardstock by using a Copic marker to match on white cs.

Special Mid-Month ODBD Release…and Prizes Too!!

Aug15 blk

Our Daily Bread Designs is having a special middle-of-the-month stamp set release!  Back in March, Kelley was looking for favorite scriptures for a new ODBD set. She had a Customer Favorite's Contest, and now it's time to reveal the winners and the new, beautiful set called Scripture Series 2. She also has a new “borders” set,  Scrolly Borders. The ODBD blog will have samples made by the winners whose verses were chosen, and they will share why that verse is special to them. Be sure to check them out!!

The design team has created some beautiful cards and layouts using these new sets. Be sure to start on the ODBD blog, and go through the list to see the beautiful creations.

Kelley has hidden prizes along the way, so you will want to be sure and visit each blog and leave a comment.

Aug15

For my card I used Jan Castle’s scripture from Psalms. I stamped the Scrolly Borders on Prima Madeline, cut it out with Spellbinders Labels 15 and trimmed the embossed edge, and sponged the edges with ColorBox Rouge. Then I used the same die to cut a mat and the next largest die for the final mat.

Aug15 doily

I used the English Tea Party doily from Cheery Lynn for my bottom layer. I got to demo these fabulous dies at Stamp Away this weekend and let me tell you they are so awesome!!
Some ribbon from JoAnn’s tied on the
Bow Easy and some pearls from Want2Scrap finished off my card.

Don’t forget… be sure to leave a comment on each blog because there are THREE $20.00 Gift Certificate prizes hidden along the way! Winners will be announced Wednesday, August 17, on the ODBD blog so be sure to check back!

More From the Fair…

Well, today is our show! Done…over… we can go home!! Woohooo! It’s been a good time, some gorgeous weather and lots more smiles and laughter!

Here’s what I discovered when I got there yesterday morning. It was VERY scary!! Carmen had spent the night in one of the stalls, she appeared to be hiding from something when I got there about 10:30…

CarmCot1

I called to her… shouted, actually! She was very startled, eyes big as saucers…

CarmCot2

OH NO!!! What could it be???!!!!!

Alien

Within minutes… the alien devoured her and took her place on the cot!!!
(actually, it was more like 30 minutes later! Carm was SOUND asleep when I got to the fairgrounds. I woke her up.. her eyes were really big as saucers! good girl though, she’d been up at 7, cleaned all the pens and had gone back to sleep!)

So, what do you do for excitement when it’s day 5 of the fair? Carmen had this idea….
