A Creative Day…Hemmed & Llamas In The News

CCM blk

And continue 0n through the day!

It was my turn to do the blog post for Die Cut Diva and Creative Cuts and More. I decided to use this Accordion Insert With A6 Card out of Bazzill Watermelon Sensation and Neenah White. The quote is stamped on Antique Label (small). (actually, the DCD post has been moved to Aug 3)

CCM inside

The outer edges are embossed with Kassie’s Brocade.

This is a peek at the Our Daily Bread designs release, August 1. The quote is from the Full of Grace series, Weave In Faith. See that beautiful Flower Border? That’s exactly what it’s called and it was designed to coordinate with Spellbinders Labels 18!

I stamped it on Basic Grey Sweet Threads, colored with Copics, then added some Flower Soft!

And the front? Simply done with Italian Flourish from Cheery Lynn Designs. ODBD just started carrying these! They are so intricate and cut beautifully!

CCM frontThe DP is more Basic Grey Sweet Threads, and the pearls are from Want2Scrap.

Hope your day wasn’t unraveled!

Hem Your Day….and Summer Llamas

Hemmed clsup

A day hemmed in prayer
is less likely to unravel….how true!

Peeks of Pincushion and Weave In Faith, coming August 1 from Our Daily Bread designs.

Hemmed343

This is the Sketch on Splitcoast today. I stamped my Pincushion on one of the solid sheets in Prima’s Moulin Rouge and colored with Copics. Sakura white and silver gel pens were used on the pins and thimble. (that’s my old pincushion and thimble that I’ve had since I was a young girl!) The Pincushion also has a Custom Die but mine hadn’t arrived yet so I had to hand cut.

Our Daily Bread designs is also carrying these awesome Cheery Lynn Designs dies (be patient, Kelley is working on getting them on the store site). The one I used on this card is Celtic Fire Rectangle Frame. Wow!….they cut like a dream, so fine and intricate!

I’m excited about this release… it has such a “homey” feel to it. You’re going to love them all!

****************

Yesterday as I was hanging yet another load of laundry on the line, I looked out by the barn and noticed 3 of my girls sunning themselves. This always cracks me up… it can be SO HOT and the llamas will leave the fans in the barn and go stretch out in the blazing sun! I have one that lays on his back, feet in the air…. but they always twitch an ear or move a toe and I breath as sigh of relief! LOL!

Would they hold that pose if I ran and grabbed my camera?

Llama Summer 1

Annie, Lady, and Tobi… and so funny, head-tail-head. I snuck up and got this shot… but as soon as Annie heard me….

Llama Summer 2

She started to get up!

Llama Summer 3

Whacha doin’ Mom?

Never a dull moment around here!
Hope your day is great!

How Special Are You? Sew Special and a Joy to Have as a Friend!

tlc blk

You’re getting to see a sneak peek at several new items coming August 1st from Our Daily Bread designs!

Today’s Technique challenge on Splitcoast was to make a box for those chunky cards that just don’t fit into an envelope….you know the ones… layers and layers, piled with flowers and embellishments!! This isn’t mail-able, but it makes for a neat presentation to hand to that special someone and make them smile!

TLC335 Sew Special Quilt 2

My “box” lid is embossed with Kassie’s Brocade, the window is Spellbinders Lattice Rectangles and Large Labels. I used my Scor-buddy for too! That awesome fence… that is larger than *whisper* Martha’s, is Fence Border Die, one of the new items!! How cool is that!!!

TLC335 Sew Special Quilt

The stamp set is Sew Special, it’s colored with Copics and sponged with Distress inks. I added some white gel pen to some of the quilt block and did some faux stitching on the Spellbinders Grommet Tag.

tlc clsup

I have several old needle packets from my mom’s sewing stash… this one just happened to be quilting needles! I didn’t want to put the package on the card so I just scanned and copied it! 4 cents… now that is old!

tlc side

Although my card isn’t super chunky, it would be a pain to try to send in an envelope!

*********************

Here’s another card I did using the Sweet William Large and Small sets.

FS233 Joy_dl

A quick simple one using the flowers from both sets and some wax paper flowers too with Spellbinders Blossom 3 on my Grand Calibur! The black layer is faux’d using a sharpie marker and a ruler.

This Says It All! And a Fun Time in Derby, Indiana!

clip_image001

We’re experiencing some high temps and humidity like a lot of the US right now… ugh! Stay COOL!!!

A last minute get-away with some dear friends took us to Derby, Indiana on the Ohio River! (Ohio River Cabins)We had 2 different cabins because of bookings, so we were in the Cottage for one night and then the Merry Maker for 2 nights.

Cabin1 front

Sunrise1

Sunrise off the Cottage deck…. ah, beautiful!

Cabin1 back

Each cabin had a dock and beautiful view of the river!

While we were in the Cottage we looked out and saw this boat pull up to OUR dock! Hmmmm, so we went down to see what was going on. They had been out on the river all day and had run out of gas… mind you, it had a 200 GALLON tank!! WoW!! The owner figured he had enough to get him to the boat dock, but was going to wait until the next morning. It was just your ordinary run of the mill speed boat… 80-100mph.. and only cost over $100,000!!! And he left the keys in it!! “Gee, can I get in it?” “Just take your shoes off”, he said… so I did! LOL

boat3

This thing looked like a cockpit in a jet!!

boat4 clsup

We even got to see inside, sink to the left, bathroom to the right!

boat5 below

Yeah, WOW! And how did he make all his money to buy this boat??!! Artificial Christmas Trees! Yup, the family business… must be rough!

ORC has a pontoon boat that it rents out… hey, that would be fun! So, we got the boat for a day and took off down river. It was hot but with the boat moving along the water there was a nice breeze. We decided to go over towards the West side and throw our lines in and see if we’d catch anything. Fish don’t bite when it’s real hot… so, let’s start’r up and go on down the river. Ok… start it… START IT!!

Um… we are on the Ohio River in a Pontoon boat that won’t start… HELP!!!

Oh… did I mention there are BARGES up and down the river all day long??!! Also cell phone service was next to impossible!

We called Bob, the maintenance guy…who of course was busy but would come find us as soon as he could. By now we’re drifting to the middle heading across the river to the East side! I totally understand DEAD IN THE WATER!

Finally Bob showed up in a Johnboat and towed us back to our dock. Whew! We were only out there helpless for about 1 1/2-2 HOURS!!! Luckily, no barges came while we were stranded! It really was kinda funny!

BobTow

Let me just say, customer service is great! It was a simple fix and we had the boat for another day at the Merry Maker! That’s Ralph fishing off the boat.

The Merry Maker.

Tug3

We lost count of how many barges we saw! Ralph and Lloyd drove down to the locks but didn’t get to see a barge go through them.

RalphNaomi

On Monday we took the boat out again and went upriver. We saw quite a few barges, we also didn’t have any boat trouble!! LOL

Tug4

Mr Tug, you stay on your side of the river and we’ll stay on ours!

Flower

Thought this flower was pretty…and growing in the rocks!

NaomiSignature2

Naomi drove a while too!

TreeRoot

We saw quite a few trees where the water had eaten away the soil, some trees were still living with 99% of the root ball exposed! Really interesting.

DawnFish

I even caught a fish! Actually I caught the most… 2! haha! And if you’re wondering… I don’t bait my hook OR take the fish off… ewwww!!!

On Tuesday it was time to pack up and head back to Ohio. None of us were ready! I got these shots of the resident Hummingbird as I sipped my coffee on the deck.

hummingbird1

hummingbird3

We had the AC turned down to almost “meat locker” cold! It sure felt good when you came in from the outdoors! BUT… my camera took a while to warm up when I’d go out to take a picture!!

Coffee1

This is a shot where I wiped my lens real quick but it started to fog back up as I snapped the pic… I like it though!

Coffee

Highly recommended for a good time!

Making Wearable Art… So Simple!

sw pin blk

Several of the girls on the ODBD design team have made some gorgeous flowers lately with this Sweet William Small set… this got me to thinking. I know, I know… you smelled smoke didn’t you!

I’m super busy what with getting ready for Ohio State Fair Llama Show, last minute ends tied up etc., but when I saw the challenge today on Splitcoast, F4A73, was using twine… I started getting this idea.

F4A73 SW Pin

Why not make a pin!

I stamped 6 flowers, 3 of each size using Colorbox Fluid Chalk ink Rouge and Dark Peony on a medium weight cotton fabric. I used my Grand Calibur to cut them all out with Spellbinders Blossom 3.

THEN… I was like.. “what would Mel do?” Of course! Gesso!! I painted the backside of each flower and let it air dry.

sw pin stitch

Using dental floss, I made long running stitches in the centers and gathered each tightly. Dental floss is great to use because it doesn’t slip and is sturdy! I alternated light and dark pink flowers, stitching together with more floss. The 3 smallest flowers I placed side by side in the center and stitched through all the layers.

sw pin clsup

sw pin pcs

I clipped some leaves from some silk flowers, made a twine bow and started gluing with Beacon 3 in 1 glue.

sw pin back

I had an old piece of costume jewelry that I never wore and took the pin-back off and glued it to my creation!

sw pin gm

It’s heavily spritzed with Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Mist.

I have more ideas whirring around in my head and will definitely be making more of these!

Have a wonderful weekend!
