Winter Wishes

This was the sketch today on Splitcoast and worked perfectly for this cute Polar Bear rubber craft stamp from Janlynn, Stamps Happen. It's one of their new Winter images.

It's colored with Copics and white Painty pen on the hat trim.

I stamped the sentiment, also from Janlynn, in Red Pepper ink. The snowflakes have Sakura glitter pen on them. The cuttlebugged embossed background also has glitter pen on the snowflakes.

A quick, cute card!

My 2cents For Fun With Digitals-Angels Landing

Hi, hope you’re having a great week up to now! We’ve definitely been experiencing Fall weather here…there is a chill in the air!

I wanted to share this card from Angels Landing and also try my hand at explaining the digital process of adding more than one printed image to your project! This is by no means the correct or only way to do this. I know just enough Photoshop to be dangerous!! But I thought there might be someone out there wondering, just not sure what to do and afraid to try…this post is for you!

Sep30th WildWed BetterBearySoonIsn’t this little guy adorable!! This is from Mini Bears & Birds. The orange layer is colored with the same Copic marker to match the daffodils!
Now, look at the card, the bear was the only piece that was printed separately. The sentiment, colored rectangles and daffodils were all done in Photoshop Elements 7! Easy! If I can do it…YOU can too!

Ok…here we go. What I’m going to show you is how to clip an image onto a shape.

Have your image opened (you need to convert it to RGB in order to “play” with it. Go to Image in your tool bar-Mode-RGB)

Start by creating a New Document. File-New-Blank File, and I sized it to just under what a normal card is, 5x4-Resolution 300 (best for printing)-Color RGB-Background White

new doc

new doc size  Now, over in your Layers pallet, create a New Layer.

new layer

Now, you’re going to select your Marquee tool (from your tool bar on the left) and draw a rectangle (or whatever shape you choose).

marquee tool draw rectangle1

Now, since I’m going to be printing this on colored cardstock, I needed to fill in the rectangle with color and be able to see the shape!
So, pick a color and use your Bucket tool to fill in. (I’m using black here for the sake of the pictorial)

fill rectangle

Here comes the fun part! In order to get 4 more shapes exactly like the first one (or however many you want)…you’re going to go over to your Layers palette, right click on Layer 1- Duplicate Layer- Ok

dup layerEach time, right clicking on the New Layer to get your Duplicate Layer.  Once you have your layers, you can then drag your shape using your move tool, over next to the previous one and they’ll all be the same size!

Try to align your shapes evenly from the far edges. I’ll show you how to even them up! This shot shows all 5 shapes, but not very straight!

5 rect's

Over in your Layers Palette, click on the top layer while holding down the shift key and click on the bottom layer. You have now targeted these layers and they’ll move as one unit!…just like magic!

targeting layers

Now, you can make adjustments up in the Options bar. With your Move tool click Align-Align Bottom and watch your shapes all line up like soldiers along the bottom. (of course if you had your shapes at the top, you’d click Align Top)

But they’re still a little whopper-jawed…no worries! Now click Distribute-Horizontal. BAM! They slide into place perfectly!

alignment

Now you can start putting your image over your shape…don’t forget to create a New Layer for each one!
Once you’ve got your image over the shape, you can size it up.

dragging image 1dragging image 2

Clear as mud? I hope not! It really is easy and if you have any problems, just email me and I’ll try to help you (remember I’m no PS wizard…just know enough to cause trouble!)

There is another method, but I need to play with it a bit first before sharing it to see if I can make it work! LOL

Print on your copy paper first to make sure you have it just like you want it before using your cardstock.

And HAVE FUN!! Isn’t that what stamping is all about?!

Thanks for stopping!

Apple Pie…The Feel of Fall…and a Great Magazine!

(I’m playing with the size of my blog, so if it looks a little funny, it’s because I have NO clue, well, next to no clue what I’m doing! Good ol’ Mel is helping me! HELP!)

Seeing Abby’s status on Facebook reminded me I wanted to share this one with you! I haven’t tooted my own horn in a while *wink*

CNT octoberRemember back last Fall when my daughter and I canned Apple Pie in a Jar?

Peeks From Our Daily Bread

No one enjoys having to send a sympathy card let alone make one. Our Daily Bread designs  just made this a little easier for you with 3 new sets coming October 1st. Two of the sets have images that can stand alone or be combined with non-sympathy verses!

Deepest Sympathy 1 closeup Can you see why I’m loving this one?! It’s a scene! All put together for me from the set With Deepest Sympathy!! The cattails are from the set With Heartfelt Sympathy.

Deepest Sympathy 1 It’s colored with Copics with a little white gel pen highlights. The cattails have a coat of clear ep, making them a lot easier to cut out!

…and the inside

Deepest Sympathy 1 inside

What’s that you’re saying? You can’t color? HUH? (maybe you can and just don’t realize it!) No Worries! Check this out! And it doesn’t even have to be a sympathy card…works great for a masculine theme.

SC247 Monochromatic

Be sure to stop by October 1st when we’ll be having our Blog Hop! And, YES, there’ll be prizes!!

Thanks for stopping
and have a blessed day!

A Sketch and New Design Team!

Woopwoop! Judi from Angels Landing PM’d me Monday and asked if I could fill in on her Fall DT due to one of her girls having to step down because of health issues. Here’s wishing you back to good health Donna!

Angels Landing is all digital images…really cute stuff!
Be sure to check them out.

So here I am, jumping in with both feet on their
sketch challenge.

Angels Landing closeup This is from Autumn Tweetings, Acorn Birdhouse.

After sizing and printing out the image, I colored it with Copics. I gave some thought to making a mask for it so I could do the background, but opted for my Versamarker and clear embossing powder. The background is sponged with distress inks while still in the Spellbinders nestie…then used sticky notes to mask the center portion and sponged the edges!

Autumn Blessings Sketch Before I tell you about that cute faux button…I’m going to tell on myself.

I’m still getting used to sizing and playing with digitals, so it took me several tries to get my sentiment strip just right! I always say there are no mistakes in stamping… (unless it’s reeeeally bad! lol), but usually you can add another layer, a brad, sponge it heavily… SOMETHING to fix it!

Well, I used my experiment for the card base. (does anyone else do this? just make card fronts and attach to cheap white cardstock!) Ok, so here’s the inside of the card…lol…it also has the same on the backside, just a tad larger.
(did you know you can click on the picture to see it larger?! what’ll they think of next!!)

Angels Landing inside Had I known it was going to work so well, I would have made it go the entire width! That’s your designer tip of the day! LOL!

Angels Landing closeup2As you can see, I got the strip worked out! It’s printed on regular ol’ white georgia pacific then I airbrushed it!
I used this week’s TLC from Splitcoast,
5-Layer Buttons, the two discs under the button are from the Creative Imaginations DP with several coats of UTEE (ultra thick embossing powder).

Hey, Thanks for stopping! Enjoy your day!

As Summer Fades….and We Enter Fall

Happy 2nd day of FALL y’all! I love Autumn!!

I don’t know about where you live, but here the flowers and butterflies were beautiful this year!

I wanted to share this card with you for several reasons…

  1. I love how it turned out
  2. It saved me money! No, really, it did!
  3. Mel asked if I’d like to do something with Arranged and she’d put it on HER blog….how could I say no!

Mel's Sample Butterfly closeupHow did it save me money you ask? Well, let me tell you! Back in August, Amber and I went to Stampaway in Cincinnati…imagine a convention center, 2 floors filled with all your stamping needs, and over-zealous paper crafters!! Yeah…CRAZY!!

Anyhoo, I was in a favorite vendor’s booth, drooling over some beautiful images and had even settled on one…holding it tightly in my hand lest another stamper snatch it from me! Then the light bulb went off…SNAP! I could re-create this stamp with several sets I had at home!!! MONEY SAVED! On to the next booth! lol

Mel's Sample Arranged Here is how I did it. I started by stamping the butterfly from Gina K’s Take Flight where I wanted it to be on the front panel. (did you think it was a separate layer? fooled you!) Then I watercolored it using Adirondack reinkers and a waterbrush. When I was satisfied with the colors, I took my stamp positioner and overstamped the butterfly! This really makes it POP and defines those lines that just don’t look as “bright” when you watercolor. Then, I took my Versamarker pen and went over the butterfly. I then covered it with clear EP and heat set it. This deepens the colors but it also makes it resist any future inking and color!

Next I stamped Melanie’s Arranged with Love from Gina K and started watercoloring again. (oh, your ink will “stamp” on the resist but you can carefully wipe it off with a tissue…I say carefully because the ink will stay wet on the embossing and smudge off the edges if you’re not careful…ask me how I know!)

I used Copic black to make a thicker line around the edges then distressed them. The Swiss Dots layer is popped up on foam mounting tape (the kind in the hardware dept). And the final touch, the little sentiment from the set.
ginak stamps, pure luxury and prism cardstock, mementos tuxedo black and adirondack reinkers, spellbinders, cuttlebug

Hope you learned just a little bit and I certainly thank you for stopping by!

Off to Wool Gathering…but first

I wanted to share this adorable new digital image from Sweet n’ Sassy stamps called Pick of the Harvest. I also did today’s sketch, SSS22, from their Sweet Spot.

SNS PickofHarvest There was an added twist to the sketch…use red/black/tan. Isn’t she sweet standing on her tippy toes to reach that apple. It’s all colored with Prismacolor pencils with little highlights using an Inkssentials white gel pen.

here’s the inside SNS PickInside

I drew in the apples along the bottom and colored them with Copics.

So, yes, I’m off to Wool Gathering! I’ll be spinning and sharing the llamas alllllll day! Answering the same questions alllllll day!! YES, they spit! No, they’re LLAMAS not Alpacas!

This is some of what I’ll be spinning today! Shadow, dyed with kool-aid! WG ShadowDyed 09

Have a Beautiful day!!
And thanks for stopping!!

Certainly is a Harvest of Blessings and an Autumn Stroll Blog Hop!

I know I’ve complained a bit about how the garden put forth an abundance at the busiest time of Summer, but I’m truly thankful and I know we’ll enjoy all the things I’ve canned or frozen when we have snow on the ground! I just finished putting up about 2 gallons of salsa!! And, yes…I’m going to make several more batches over the next couple of weeks!

Now I want to share another blessing… this new digital set from Sweet n’ Sassy Stamps,
Harvest Fruits.

harvestfruits-watermarkedHarvest closeupIt’s all colored with Copics with a little gel pen highlights. I also tried something new… a Magical Marquee Card! I’ll give you the link to a tutorial in a minute.

HarvestClosed   Here is what it looks like closed…
and here it is open

HarvestOpen

Those curtains just magically open! TaDa!!

I’ll admit, mine didn’t go together quite as easily as in the tutorial, but it’s so cool! The card measure 5x5.

The verse is sponged with distress ink.
All the cardstock is generic stuff from Hollo’s (this awesome store north of me where paper is $1.25 a pound! yeah.. a POUND! good thing it’s almost a 2 hr drive for me or I’d have a whole room full of paper!) The patterned paper is Pocket Full of Posies by DCWV.

Okay…here is the tutorial link I promised… Magical Marquee Card.

And here is the next blog in line Ceal Pritchett, enjoy. Be sure to stop by the SNS blog tomorrow and Friday during the hop!

and as always…

Thanks for stopping!

A Cheerful Heart…

So, I got this idea from Mel’s blog and just had to try it! It’s another pocket card…and don’t forget you still have time to do Our Daily Bread’s challenge too.

PocketButterflyVellum3I started by cutting my cardstock in half lengthwise, 4.25x11and folded it in half. I also cut two pieces about 1.5x5.5 to use for the side pieces. *this way these pieces acted as the “sealing” of my sides and my tag could be about the same size as the pocket.
More on this in a bit.

PocketButterflyVellum1 As you can see, I used a border punch (Fiskar) on the edge pieces, scored them and folded so they would fit on the pocket edges. At this point they’re not attached. Next I laid them in place and stamped the flourishes from Get Well & Thinking of You in Oregano, Rust, Ginger, and Butterscotch. Once satisfied, I removed the side pieces and sponged distress Spiced Marmalade on the pocket and side pieces.

I knew I wanted to put some foliage and butterflies on it like Mel had done with the leaves, so I left room towards the bottom of the pocket when I cut my Nestie scalloped oval. (remember, nothing is taped/glued shut yet so it allows me to work on the inside layers easily!)
The rust colored oval is a piece of white cardstock colored with a Copic marker to match the butterflies! The vellum is then glued into the inside, covering the oval window.

PocketButterflyVellum4

The large butterfly is a Cuttlebug die and embossing folder. Before embossing I stamped the flourishes and colored with Copic makers. The smaller butterflies are from a Martha Stewart punch, also colored with Copics. Prism Spring Willow med and Intense Kiwi were used for the MS punched foliage.

After lining up the edge pieces and gluing them in place, I arranged it all, popping up the large butterfly with a thin strip of foam mounting tape under the “body” only. And using an oval punch, punched the spot where the pull would be for the tag.

PocketButterflyVellum2

A piece of white cardstock heavily sponged with Spiced Marmalade, stamped with a Scripture from Get Well and an oval punched pull glued in place… voila, done!

recipe:
paper: prism iced yellow, spring willow med, intense kiwi, georgia pacific white , vellum ink: adirondack butterscotch, rust, ginger, oregano, distress spiced marmalade-ranger stamps: get well, thinking of you-
our daily bread designs  other: copic markers, spellbinders nestabilities, cuttlebug die/embossing folder, martha stewart punches, fiskar border punch, dauber, zip dry glue, oval punch, foam mounting tape

Showers of Blessings & Labor Day Trivia

CedarvilleSignSm
I hope you’re enjoying the last of the “Summer” holidays, the last of the picnics…and you can thank James Kyle for your day off work. Lots of good things come from Ohio! *grin*

Here’s my card for our CCEE challenge…Frances has the month of September and started us out with a sketch.
9-7 Blessings of God I used this cute digital image from Sweet n’ Sassy Stamps called Showers of Blessing.*note, it's a digital image I downloaded and printed.
showers of blessing1

I paper pieced her dress by putting the printed image on my light table, putting the patterned paper on top and tracing. Then I just cut it out and glued it in place!

showers of blessing2
The image is colored with Copics and sponged with Faded Jeans distress ink. A Sakura Souffle gel pen was used for the rain. I sponged the greeting while it was still in the nestie… And of course I had to add some Swimming Pool Mudd Puddles sand ! The base layer is colored with a Copic marker to match the umbrella. *note! that's NOT Flower Soft! It's sand*

Friends At All Times Pocket

Here I used the set Friendship along with Sing to the Lord. I love this type of pocket card called Criss-Cross. You can read how to do it here.

These Scriptures, sentiments and flourishes will compliment so many of the fabulous images already available. I just love this bird!!
For the extra flourishes, I only inked up those parts and stamped in the corners of the insert and envelope!

Friends At All Times Pocket1

For the pocket back and insert, I traced a Top Note template and added an extra bit to the edges (of the back) as it doesn’t quite make it to the edges. Then pierced them with a piercing tool.

FriendsBirdCloseup Colored with Copics, masked and airbrushed. I loved how the background turned out. So much so, that I didn’t want to waste it so I included another layer! It was like putting a puzzle together (you can see where I’d cut around for his tail) …lol. (that dark layer is actually brown, but it doesn’t look like it here!)

I used a white gel pen to highlight around the eye and eyeball.

stamps: Friendship, Sing to the Lord-Our Daily Bread designs  ink: adirondack espresso, hazlenut-Ranger paper: georgia pacific, latte stack-DCWV, unknown vanilla  other: Copics, ABS, Martha Stewart border punch, Spellbinders ovals, Anna Griffin ribbon, foam dimensionals, piercing tool
